Our campus mailrooms have reported receiving several personal packages for staff and faculty members. Please remember that having personal packages shipped to the University is not permitted as this creates congestion and extra work for our mail staff. The mailrooms should be used for business purposes only. Thank you for your cooperation.

ITS is pleased to highlight Canvas tools and features that can help faculty and students achieve their goals. This week's tip is:
Allow Multiple Submission Types for Online Assignments
When creating an online Assignment in Canvas, you have the ability to allow multiple submission types. These types include: file upload, text entry, and media recording (audio/ video). Providing options can allow students to choose how to participate based on personal strengths and preferences. It can also accommodate variety in technology and equity (internet quality/ device access). Instructions are included in the guide below:

Please note that we are observing the Thanksgiving Holiday on 11/23 & 11/24.
How to enter Holiday time on timesheets:
Under the Holiday slot on your timesheet, enter the required hours per day you have to work. You will either be entering 7, 7.5, or 8 hours depending on your job classification and accrued leave time.
If you are a temporary employee (whether you are PT or FT) with the University (this excludes student workers and interns) you need to code 4 hours of Holiday time on your timesheet for each day that you would normally work.
For hourly employees who will be required to work over the holiday break you will enter the hours you worked along with entering your holiday time (you will have a total of 2 entries for the days you work over the break). Only essential staff, with prior approval by their Supervisor, will have coded work hours over the break.
Any questions, please reach out to payroll@alfred.edu

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Hate crimes against LGBTQ people increased since last year according to new FBI data. Bias crimes motivated by sexual orientation and gender identity were up in 2022 over last year, representing one fifth of total hate crimes tracked by the FBI.
"This data reflects the sad reality our communities have known this past year, that we are facing increased harm and violence, and our safety is at risk," says AVP Executive Director Beverly Tillery. "This is sadly only a snapshot of the real problem, as we know many threats and hate incidents against our communities go unreported or are not considered crimes and are untracked in this data."
This Transgender Awareness Month, AVP is uplifting the release of 'Afterlives: The Layleen Polanco Story," a new iHeart podcast about the life and untimely death of Afro-Latine trans woman, Layleen Polanco. In 2019, Layleen died while being held at the notorious Rikers Island in solitary confinement, despite known mental and physical health issues.

We currently have two new vendor punch-out catalogs for the Saxon Shop that need test orders before we can make them available to the entire campus.
If you have a product need that could be filled by either Adorama or School Specialty, please contact Procurement at x2698 or procurement@alfred.edu so we can give you access to the catalogs.
We would then work with you to monitor your order from start to finish to be sure the punch-outs are working properly. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
