Canvas Tip of the Week - Place all Quiz Questions on One Page

ITS is pleased to highlight Canvas tools and features that can help faculty and students achieve their goals. This week's tip is:

Place All Quiz Questions on One Page

When creating a Quiz in Canvas, you have the ability to place all questions on one page (this is a default setting). This choice is helpful for students who struggle with slow internet connections, as they do need to wait for multiple pages to load. It also reinforces good habits and reduces text anxiety by allowing students to check their answers before submitting. Instructions are included in the guide below:

Off-Campus Work Study Position- Alfred-Almond Central School

Did you know that you can work as a work-study student at local off-campus community service employers?

The Alfred Almond Central School is looking to hire Federal Work Study eligible students as teacher's aides (10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) and after school tutors (3:20 p.m.-5:00 p.m.) Students will need their own transportation.

Accounts Payable/Reimbursement Deadline - Holiday Break

There will be no checks processed during the University's Holiday Break (12/22-1/2).

All invoices/travel must be received in the Business Office by Tuesday, December 12th end of day to go in our last check run for the year, which will be processed on 12/14. Any invoices received after this date will not be paid until we return in January.

Jerome Ackerman Internship at Alfred Ceramic Art Museum

The Ackerman Internship is a one semester paid internship that offers students at Alfred University's School of Art and Design in-depth exposure to Museum professional practices as well as insight in to creative processes across history. It is designed to further the intern's professional goals while helping the Museum address its specific needs.

Art Makers Apprenticeship Program Open Call

Art Makers Apprentice Program between Alfred's National Casting Center Foundry + Urban Art Projects Polich Tallix
The Art Makers Apprentice Program is a unique collaboration to empower, inspire and celebrate the next generation of art makers between UAP | Urban Art Projects (Sculpture Foundry near Newburgh, NY) and Alfred University's National Casting Center Foundry, School of Art and Design at the New York State College of Ceramics. During the apprenticeship students will gain hands-on experience of working on a variety of public art projects and foundry practices at UAP's extraordinary art making facility located in the Hudson River Valley, NY. The Art Makers Apprentice will experience and be a part of real-world interactions between artists, designers and makers related to the large-scale production of art and metal casting.

Eligibility: Graduate and Undergraduate students enrolled in the School of Art and Design. Number of students: 2-3 students Length: 6-8 weeks during the summer (June 1st, 2024 - July 13th, 2024)

Housing: Students will be required to supplement the cost of housing. Assistance finding suitable and affordable housing will be provided by UAP.

Travel: Students will be required to cover travel.

Funding: The apprentice is paid at a starting rate of $15 per hours 30 - 40 hrs a week. Students may apply for funding regarding housing and travel (Apex + Bernstein) but it is not guaranteed.

First Generation College Student Fundraiser

The AU Women's Basketball Team is still accepting donations to help support First Generation College Students.

Public events in the School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division, week of November 20 - December 2, 2023. All events are free and open to the public.

November 30 and December 1, 6pm CD Smith Theatre Informal Dance Showing Come see what Alfred University students have been working on in the AU Dance Program this semester! Over two nights, the End of Semester showing is an informal performance of the learning and growth in Alfred University's dance program. Each night will have a different line up of works that include student performances from Anthony, Law & Wahl's dance courses.

December 1, 7:30pm Miller Theatre Pop Music Ensemble The Alfred University Performing Arts Division and Music Department presents the AU Pop Ensemble featuring AU student musicians and studio engineers, on stage in the Miller theater, playing a combination of original compositions as well as interpretations of popular music as selected by the students.

Alfred University celebrates its Day of Giving next Tuesday

The campus community is invited to join students for a study break at Powell Campus Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, as Alfred University celebrates its annual Day of Giving.

December 5 is Founders Day -- our university was founded on December 5, 1836 -- and for 1,836 minutes we will go All In For Alfred in support of students. During Tuesday's event at Powell, there will be free cookies and hot chocolate, and a special appearance by a guest from our Equestrian Center, Goose the horse.
