UDL Tip of the Week: Microsoft Accessibility Checker

AU's Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Task Force is pleased to share weekly tips to help faculty and staff provide an inclusive learning environment for all students, regardless of differences that may impact learning. This week's tip is:

Microsoft Accessibility Checker

The Microsoft Accessibility Checker is available in all Office 365 programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. It can help ensure that documents are accessible for users with disabilities, and are compatible with screen reading technology. This tool identifies potential issues in the document, and suggests an adjustment for each.

Assistance is available for all courses with a Canvas instance, whether they are delivered online or in person. Areas of focus include but are not limited to course structure, navigation, content placement, and organization.

To schedule an initial discussion and needs assessment, please contact Meghanne Freivald.

Bergren Forum - Laurie Lounsberry Meehan, “History Hiding in Plain Sight”

Changes over time often leave quiet remnants that become obvious once you know where to look. Take a virtual walk with University Archivist Laurie Lounsberry Meehan to explore interesting aspects of campus history that we pass by every day but probably don't know there's a story waiting to be told.

The Bergren Forum takes place every Thursday lunchtime during the semester from 12:15 pm to 1:00 pm in Nevins Theater. You're welcome to bring your own lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.

For further information, contact Paige Bock (bock@alfred.edu, (607)-871-2217) or John D'Angelo (dangelo@alfred.edu, x2821).
