Canvas Tip of the Week - One Page Quizzes

ITS is pleased to highlight Canvas tools and features that can help faculty and students achieve their goals. This week's tip is:

Place All Quiz Questions on One Page

When creating a Quiz in Canvas, you have the ability to place all questions on one page (this is a default setting). This choice is helpful for students who struggle with slow internet connections, as they do not need to wait for multiple pages to load. It also reinforces good habits and reduces text anxiety by allowing students to check their answers before submitting.

FYI for Student Timesheet Approvers

If a student misses putting their electronic timesheet in Bannerweb by Noon on Monday, as a Supervisor you have 2 options. You can have the student submit a late paper timesheet or you can go in as a Superuser and complete their timesheet for them.
Late paper timesheets need to be received by close of business on Wednesday of a timesheet submission week. These timesheets can be hand delivered, to Payroll, in Greene Hall, by the Supervisor, or sent to [email protected]. Late paper timesheets that are received after the Wednesday deadline will not be processed until the following Payroll.
Superuser submissions and approvals of timesheets in Bannerweb need to be received by close of business on Wednesday of a timesheet submission week. In Bannerweb, act like you are going to approve time as normal, but select Act as Superuser, then select BK, payroll number, under department select your timesheet approver code, then hit select.
All student Non-Work Study paper job forms or EPAFs or Work Study jobs have to be received by Thursday of a timesheet submission week. If jobs are not received by then, they will not be processed until the following Payroll.
Payroll starts processing on Friday of a timesheet submission week. Please note that the Payroll team will be focused on processing Payroll from Friday-Wednesday, so your response may be delayed.

International Students' Day

International Students' Day is observed on Sunday, November 17th, 2024. It has been observed annually on November 17th since 1941.

International Students Day transcends its historical roots, becoming a celebration of diversity, cultural exchange, and solidarity among students worldwide. It serves as a platform to recognize the invaluable contributions made by international students, fostering understanding, cooperation, and tolerance among different cultures and societies.

One of the most remarkable aspects of International Students Day is the celebration of diversity. It highlights the rich tapestry of cultures, languages, traditions, and perspectives brought together within educational institutions. Students from various backgrounds congregate, creating a melting pot of ideas, experiences, and knowledge. This diversity enriches the academic environment, encouraging cross-cultural dialogue and broadening everyone's worldview.

The day also emphasizes the challenges faced by international students. Adjusting to a new culture, learning a different language, navigating unfamiliar academic systems, and being away from home can be daunting experiences. However, International Students Day is an opportunity to acknowledge and support these students, ensuring they feel welcomed, valued, and included in their host communities.

Furthermore, this occasion underscores the importance of education as a catalyst for global understanding and cooperation. Education transcends boundaries, fostering empathy, mutual respect, and collaboration among individuals from diverse backgrounds. It enables students to become global citizens, equipped with the skills and perspectives necessary to address complex global challenges collectively.
