There will be parking restrictions in place on President's Day, Monday, February 17, as Enrollment Management/Admissions is hosting an event for prospective students and their families.
From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., students, staff, and faculty are asked to not park in the lot behind McLane Center, the lot serving Miller Performing Arts Center and Ade Hall, and the Alumni Hall lot. We ask that vehicles be removed from these lots by 3 p.m. Sunday, February 16.
All parking lots on campus-excluding those serving McLane, Miller-Ade, and Alumni Hall-will be available for use by students, staff, and faculty. Well, Winter finally got started, and of course that means it's time to be extra careful getting around.
Our grounds crews are busy every day, clearing and salting roads and sidewalks, and custodians are working to keep floors clean and dry so we don't slip and fall. Please save yourself and them some trouble, by taking extra time and using extra caution when going from place to place.
Here's a link to a message about how to get around safely in Winter, by walking like a penguin, etc.

If you do fall, or are a witness to someone falling and/or being injured, please use this link to file a near-miss/incident/accident report:

Mae Jemison is a trailblazing African American astronaut, physician, and engineer, best known for becoming the first African American woman to travel in space. She made history on September 12, 1992, when she flew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour during mission STS-47 as a Mission Specialist. Her groundbreaking achievement was a significant milestone for women and people of color in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
In addition to her work as an astronaut, Mae Jemison has made significant contributions to Black History Month in various ways:
Inspiration and Advocacy for STEM Education: Throughout her career, Jemison has been an advocate for diversity in STEM fields, encouraging young people, especially African American youth, to pursue careers in science, technology, and engineering. She established the Jemison Group, a company that seeks to bring innovative solutions in technology and science to underdeveloped regions.
Public Speaking and Mentorship: Jemison regularly speaks at events and public forums, inspiring the next generation of scientists and leaders, especially those from marginalized communities. She is often invited to speak during Black History Month, where her story serves as a beacon of possibility for young people, especially Black girls, who may not have considered STEM as a career path.
Promoting Inclusivity: As one of the few African American women in space, Mae Jemison has helped elevate the importance of representation in the sciences. She has worked to show that African Americans, and particularly African American women, can excel in fields that were historically dominated by men and people of other ethnicities.
Cultural Contributions: Outside of her scientific career, Jemison has combined her love for the arts with her technical work, emphasizing that creativity and innovation go hand in hand. She even appeared on the TV show Star Trek: The Next Generation, making history as the first real astronaut to act in a Star Trek episode, a role that blended science fiction with real-world science.
Through these contributions, Mae Jemison has had a lasting impact on Black History Month by highlighting the importance of breaking barriers and advancing diversity in fields like space exploration and science. Her legacy continues to inspire individuals to reach for the stars, both literally and figuratively.
