Upcoming Changes to the Storage of AU Zoom Recordings

Information Technology Services is pleased to continue offering Zoom to the campus community. In order to ensure the quality and availability of this service, AU routinely deletes old recordings from our instance of Zoom. This is scheduled twice per year, in July and February. All recordings made prior to December 16, 2024 will be deleted on February 28, 2025. Users are encouraged to examine their recordings and download any items that need to be saved. This routine maintenance will allow us to continue to provide Zoom for virtual meetings and classes. Any questions on this matter can be directed to the ITS Helpdesk. Thank you for your cooperation.

Herbie Hancock is a legendary American jazz pianist, keyboardist, composer, and bandleader. He is known for his influential contributions to jazz and is regarded as one of the most innovative musicians in the genre. Herbie Hancock's legacy is one of constant reinvention, and his ability to adapt to new genres and technologies has kept him relevant across generations of musicians. Whether pushing the envelope with jazz fusion or blending jazz with hip-hop, his innovations have shaped the sound of modern music.
Hancock rose to prominence in the 1960s, especially through his work with the Miles Davis Quintet. His debut as a solo artist also gained recognition, particularly with his album Head Hunters (1973), which helped shape the fusion of jazz and funk.
He has a vast and diverse discography that includes works ranging from traditional acoustic jazz to electronic music. His music often incorporates elements of funk, soul, and R&B. Notably, he was a pioneer in using synthesizers in jazz and was one of the first prominent jazz musicians to embrace electronic music in the 1970s.
Hancock has won numerous Grammy Awards, and his influence extends beyond jazz into various genres and styles. He's not only a virtuoso pianist but also an educator, mentor, and philanthropist.
Key Albums:
"Future Shock" (1983)
A pivotal moment in Hancock's career, Future Shock was one of the first major works to blend jazz with electronic and hip-hop elements. The single "Rockit" became a massive hit and introduced Hancock to a new, younger audience. It's often regarded as a pioneering work in the fusion of jazz, electronic music, and pop.
"The Imagine Project" (2010)
This album is a world-spanning, collaborative effort, featuring musicians from various genres and cultures. It includes artists like Sting, John Mayer, and Lisa Hannigan. The album covers classic songs and originals with a focus on themes of peace and unity, and it won a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album.
Career Milestones:
The Miles Davis Quintet (1963-1968): Hancock's career skyrocketed when he joined Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet. This period saw him push the boundaries of jazz, contributing to groundbreaking albums like E.S.P. and Miles Smiles. Davis' innovative approach to jazz was a crucial influence on Hancock's development as a composer and improviser.
A Diverse Career in Film and Television: Hancock also contributed music to film, including his iconic score for the 1986 film Round Midnight, which won him an Academy Award for Best Original Score. His work in film and television expanded his influence beyond the jazz world.
A Lifetime of Awards and Recognition: Hancock has received a remarkable number of accolades, including multiple Grammy Awards (he's won over 14), an Academy Award, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom (2016), awarded by President Barack Obama.
