Apply for the Women's Leadership Academy!

Applications for next year's Women's Leadership Academy program (2025-26) ARE NOW OPEN! While a faculty/staff nomination is not required to apply for the WLA, it certainly helps! To nominate a student, email Abby Hurley ([email protected]).

The WLA is open to students of ANY gender identity.
The Academy is a one-year commitment that combines coursework about gender and leadership with mentorship and programming opportunities. Students who are accepted into the Women's Leadership Academy take two 2-credit classes, one in fall and one in spring. The fall class, WGST 201: Gender & Leadership, focuses on learning about gender inequities, the intersection of gender & leadership, the history of feminism, other social issues, and more. The spring class, WGST 475: Women's Leadership Academy Practicum, focuses primarily on the leadership capstone project that students will complete. This capstone project is meant to be a culmination of their leadership skills and identity that benefits the community. Some past projects have included:
* Helping develop & implement a leadership program for first-year students
* Planning the recruitment and interview process for the next cohort
* Planning & facilitating leadership workshops for students
* A women's leadership hike
* Planning a Women's Leadership Academy reunion during Alumni Weekend
* And more!

Students who complete the Women's Leadership Academy not only have something awesome to put on their resume and transcripts, but they also learn to grow as leaders and as individuals. There is no GPA requirement for eligibility and students can participate in the WLA any year after their freshman year. This is a great opportunity not only for students who are already leaders but also those who could benefit from more experience!

Applications are due March 5th. Students can apply via this link: https://forms.office.com/...
If you have any questions, contact Abby Hurley at the Judson Leadership Center ([email protected]).

Computer Science Faculty Candidate Presentation - Yutong Ye

We're pleased to announce the research presentation of a Computer Science faculty candidate Yutong Ye. Please join us in CASTLE lab, Myers Hall 107 on Tuesday, March 4, 3:20 PM.

Title: Artificial Intelligence for Database Query Optimization and Intelligent Traffic Signal Control

Location: CASTLE lab, Myers Hall 107

Time: Tuesday, March 4, 3:20 P.M.

Abstract: This presentation explores AI-driven solutions for database query optimization and intelligent traffic signal control. In databases, we propose a GNN-based Path Dominance Embedding (GNN-PE) framework for efficient subgraph matching, significantly improving query performance through learned dominance relationships and optimized indexing. In intelligent transportation, we introduce RTLight, a real-time traffic signal control system leveraging digital twins and federated reinforcement learning to enhance traffic efficiency while preserving data privacy. Experimental results on real-world datasets validate the effectiveness of both approaches.

Bio: Mr. Yutong Ye is a Ph.D. candidate (expected 2025) in the Software Engineering Institute, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China. He is now also a visiting scholar at the Department of Computer Science, Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. His research interests include (1) Learning based Graph Query Processing and Optimization; (2) Intelligent Transportation System; and (3) Other Deep Learning Technologies and Applications. He has published 28 top-tier conference/journal papers in the areas of artificial intelligence and database. He served as a program committee member and/or reviewer in 10 conferences and journals.
