Saxon Strength & Wellness - Free Workouts - Sign Up

The Alfred University Health Fitness Management students are hosting free, 50-minute, group workout sessions for Alfred University faculty, staff, students, and the Alfred community!

These Saxon Strength & Wellness sessions will include a variety of different workouts such as: bodyweight resistance, cardio, and flexibility/mobility. The sessions will consist of a warm up, various exercises, cool down, and a general health/wellness educational topic of the day. Workouts will accommodate for skill and experience level.

Schedule & Location: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:20-4:10pm in the multipurpose room located on the second floor of the Joyce and Walton Center. Sessions will run for four weeks from Tuesday, April 1st through Thursday, April 24th.

The Foreign Language Placement Exam (Wednesday, April 2nd)

The Foreign Language Placement Exam is an online test that is administered in person with proctoring. Online exams can be taken in French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese. Students must PREREGISTER by emailing Prof. S. Singer ([email protected]). In the email, include the language (French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese) in which you would like to be tested. Modern Languages will offer this test on Wednesday, April 2nd from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Perlman 105. You must pre-register before Tuesday, April 1st, at 10:00 p.m. (to take the exam on Wednesday). Bring your student ID with you to the exam!

Who should take a Placement Exam? Students who have taken more than two years of French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Chinese in high school and who intend to take the same language at AU should take the exam in that language. Students who are bilingual or native speakers of French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Chinese (or who have spoken the language at home) should take the exam in that language. Who does NOT need to take a Placement Exam? Students who are planning to take French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Chinese in college but have NOT studied that language in High School (or spoken it at home) do not need to take an exam. They should start by taking 101 in their chosen language. Students who wish to demonstrate proficiency in a language OTHER THAN French, German, Spanish, Italian, or Chinese should contact Prof. S. Singer ([email protected]) about procedures for taking a Placement Exam through another institution.


PLEASE NOTE: The Foreign Language Placement Exam is online but only offered in person on specific dates during each semester. You must register ahead of time. There is a limit of 15 for each session.

Canines & Cookies!

Have some free time April 1st from 11am to 4pm?

Then come stop by to the Kenyon Allen room, located in Powell 2nd floor, and meet some of the local shelter dogs! This event is part of a capstone project for the Women's Leadership Academy, and we would appreciate people coming. Along with the dogs we are offering free cookies while supplies last and the shelter is supplying merch that will be available for purchase.

Even if its just for five minutes, come stop by and enjoy these cute canines!

Take Part in the Wellness Center�s April Fitness Challenge!

From April 1st-30th, the AU Wellness Center will be hosting a Fitness Challenge. Individuals or teams of up to 5 may participate; participants can be of any fitness level and will be asked to keep track of their physical activity for the month.

For prizes, the top number of hours for each activity class on average (beginner, intermediate, advanced) will receive a $100 gift card to the Alfred University Bookstore. Participants who also fully complete and adhere to the challenge will also receive a prize.
