2026 AKO Leadership Awards

The Judson Leadership Center is now taking nominations for the 2026 AKO Leadership Awards!

These awards are generously endowed by the Alpha Kappa Omicron sisterhood of Alfred University. Alpha Kappa Omicron was an Alfred University sorority established in 1944 as interfaith and interracial, with the ideals of truth understanding and sisterhood in equity. These awards have been created to carry on their legacy. Each year, two students receive these awards. The descriptions and criteria of each award are below. Please note the eligibility is based on time at the University, not just by credit (i.e., a first-year student with enough credits to be listed as a sophomore cannot apply.)

To nominate a student, please send their full name & a brief statement on why you wish to nominate them (and for which award) to Abby Hurley at [email protected]. The award descriptions are below.

AKO Achievement Award - Honors a sophomore (second-year student) who has demonstrated excellent personal academic leadership. This award comes with a $250 honorarium. To be eligible for this award the student must be:
* Sophomore earned status (non-transfer student)
* 3.25 GPA
* Be involved in at least one organization or club that is related to academics

AKO Social Change Leadership Award - Honors a junior (third-year student) who has demonstrated a commitment to change-for-the-good leadership and embodies the values of integrity, collaboration, civility, common purpose, and citizenship. This award comes with a $500 honorarium. To be eligible for this award students must be:
* Junior earned status
* 3.0 GPA
* Demonstrated leadership in a student club or an organization that is service-related

Eugene Ofori-Agyei: Fihankra (You Did Not Say Goodbye When You Left Home).

Alfred Ceramic Art Museum presents 2026 upcoming exhibition.

"Eugene Ofori-Agyei: Fihankra (You Did Not Say Goodbye When You Left Home)."
February 12th to July 19th, 2026

Opening Reception: Thursday, February 12, 5-7pm

Eugene Agyei arrived at Alfred University in 2023, chosen by the Division of Ceramic Art faculty as the Turner Teaching Fellow in the School of Art & Design at the New York State College of Ceramics. Over the course of the following years, he formed a bond with the students, faculty and entire community, all the while developing his own complex body of work. In this exhibition, Agyei borrows from the tradition of Adinkra symbolism, native to his homeland of Ghana, in which a single symbol can express a range of complex ideas. These symbols form the starting point, but then mutate and transform into rich "assemblage" works incorporating fabric, wool, and wood in which formal and material considerations are given priority over direct symbolism.

Social Justice Teaching Collective Winterval Festivus

Join your friends and colleagues for the Social Justice Teaching Collective Winterval Festivus before the holiday luncheon. We'll gather at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, December 16th in Herrick Library's Bookend Lounge, and have some light refreshments while we talk about things that connect our teaching to social justice. I'll provide information about the Social Justice Studies program for new folks, and there will be space and time for folks to collaborate on how to incorporate social justice elements into their existing courses or how to create new courses that include social justice themes. Anyone interested in getting a course included as an elective for the minor is invited to bring your ideas and questions!

December/January Holiday Payroll Notice

Official Holiday Dates: December 22, 2025 - January 2, 2026

Please note that payroll processing will be adjusted due to the upcoming holiday break. Important deadlines and instructions are outlined below.

Payroll #1 (Pay Period: 12/07/25 - 12/20/25)
Timesheet Submission - All Employees Not Working Over the Break
If you will not be working during the holiday break, please submit your timesheet(s) before leaving for break on 12 19, 2025.
Supervisors: please review and approve these timesheets on 12/19/25 before you leave.

How to Record Holiday Time
Payroll #2 (Pay Period: 12/21/25 - 1/3/26)
Holiday Time for Regular Employees
Under the Holiday section of your timesheet, enter the designated number of holiday hours per day based on your role and accrued leave. This will typically be 7, 7.5, or 8 hours.

Holiday Time for Temporary Employees
Temporary employees (full-time or part-time, excluding student workers and interns) should enter 4 hours of Holiday time for each day they would normally work.

If you work your regular scheduled hours on a holiday, you will receive only the difference up to 4 hours.
Example: If you are scheduled for 3 hours on 12/26/25 and you work those 3 hours, you will receive 1 hour of Holiday time.

Employees Working During the Holiday Break
Hourly employees who are required to work during the break should enter both:
1. Hours worked
2. Holiday time
This will result in two entries for each day worked during the holiday period.

Only essential staff with prior Supervisor approval should record work hours during the holiday break.
