Canvas Tip of the Week: Customize the Course Navigation Menu

ITS is pleased to highlight Canvas tools and features that can help faculty and students achieve their goals. This week's tip is:

Customize the Course Navigation Menu

Faculty have the ability to manage the links that appear on the course navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen. This allows you to hide tools that you to not plan on using. This reduces "cognitive load" and makes it much easier for the students to navigate through the course and locate the items they need to access. Instructions are included in the guide below.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Drop-In Hours

On Monday, February 16 from 10:30am to 12:00pm, the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Task Force will be hosting UDL Drop-in Hours. Faculty may stop by to seek assistance with applying UDL principles in their courses. Universal Design for Learning is the practice of creating learning experiences appropriate for all students, regardless of learning differences or diversity factors. The goal of UDL is to remove barriers to learning.

Faculty who visit the drop-in hours may choose to focus on one of the following areas:
- Applying UDL principles to a syllabus
- Applying UDL principles to an assignment
- Applying UDL principles to a Canvas course
- Increasing the accessibility of electronic materials
- A self-directed UDL goal related to teaching and course delivery

UDL Drop-in Hours will be held in Scholes 218. If seeking assistance with a syllabus or assignment, please bring two paper copies. Please bring your laptop if seeking assistance with Canvas, digital accessibility, or another goal involving technology.

Formal Dance Concert

Alfred University Dance Department presents an Evening of Formal Dance, February 19-21 from 8-9pm in Miller Theater

These free concerts feature choreographic works by faculty, students and visiting dance artists, directors, choreographers and producers.

Audiences will experience the many skilled roles Alfred University students take on in the process, including: choreographer, dancer, costume designer, costume builder, lighting designer and stage crew.

MostArts 2026 Celebrates Season 10

Join us as we celebrate 10 Seasons of Magic with guest pianists, Avery Gagliano [2015 Grand prize winner], Evelina Kleczek [2025 Grand prize winner], and the return of Russian pianist, Asiya Korepanova.

Graduating in May?

Are you planning on Graduating in May? Here are a few things you should know and do:
* College policy requires that you must submit an Application to Graduate in order to actually graduate. To access the graduation application you need to log into BannerWeb and click on student services tab then student records. You should see at the bottom of the list an application to graduate with a graduation cap. Please click that link and follows the prompts.
* Don't forget to order your cap, gown, tassel and hood at the Alfred University Bookstore, Powell Campus Center. Deadline is March 18, 2026!
* Check out our Graduation Checklist Page of things to do and be aware of. Check back regularly for any updates/changes.

Admissions Hosts Accepted Student Celebration � Monday, Feb. 16

The Office of Admissions is excited to welcome over 90 accepted students and their families to campus for our President's Day event on Monday, Feb. 16!

The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Families will park in the McLane parking lot and check in at Miller Theater before exploring various locations across campus throughout the day.

We are excited to showcase our campus and community, and we thank you in advance for helping us give these future students a warm Alfred University welcome!

The Faces Behind H/EOP: Building Access for All (Tabling Event)

Presenting a collection of photos and artifacts of the formation of H/EOP at Alfred University. Discussions will revolve around the formulation of the program, upcoming H/EOP's projects, and what it looks like to have college accessibility for all students. We will be tabling on the second floor of Powell Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come and join us!
