Alumni - An AU Love Story
Lawrence Stanley ’58 and Leah Camille (Crofoot) ’58 Harris

Leah Camille Crofoot and Lawrence Stanley Harris, both of Alfred University’s class of 1958 and long-time residents of Alfred, were wed on the 31st of May, 1958.  The ceremony took place at the First Alfred Seventh Day Baptist Church on the weekend between Baccalaureate service on campus and commencement one week later.

The bond of marriage was sealed by two reverend ministers, each a graduate of Alfred University:  Rev. Jay W. Crofoot (B.A. 1895; M.A. 1901; Hon. Doctorate 1932), grandfather of the bride; and Rev. Everett T. Harris (B.D. 1931), father of the groom.

Three Theta Theta Chi sorority sisters were bridesmaids:  Roberta Armstrong, Barbara Long ’58, and Joan Harnett '58.  Several family members and fraternity brothers, including ushers Everett Harris, Jr ’56, Joe Stein ’58, and Roger Eiss ’58, participated in the service.

The church organ was played by Brian Rogers (AU, '59.)  The Lambda Chi Alpha men’s chorus, directed by Roger Eiss, provided two vocal pieces.

The church was full to standing-room-only.  The reception following the event also filled Howell Hall on campus.

Such memories are the glue of which long romances are made.

The couple plans to attend the 50th Reunion of the Class of 1958 in June of 2008.
