Evelyn Halper, AU Class of 1972, writes that she has “derived and written a channeled spiritual book penned and authored in the years 2005-2015” – “the entire story of biri jeet.” The work commemorates in fantasy and spiritual tale the memory of her “deceased life partner, Joan Ripp … the healing of the earth... the saving of the tiny animals and the graces given to lost children of nethers...”


Sabol ’89 new senior vice president/president at Xylem Inc. 9/17/15

Xylem Inc., Rye Brook, NY has named Colin Sabol, AU Class of 1989, as senior vice president and president for analytics and treatment. In this role, he will lead the global operations of the two business divisions.

Colin most recently served as senior vice president and president for dewatering. He will continue to serve on the company’s senior leadership team.

Colin also serves as chairman of Xylem Watermark, Xylem’s corporate citizenship and social investment program.


News Image Washington ’04 accepts appointment to Manhattan Deputy Borough President seat 9/17/15

Matthew Washington, a Manhattan native and member of the AU Class of 2004, has been appointed by Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer one of two deputy borough presidents. He begins his new duties Nov. 2, 2015.

Matthew currently serves as deputy director of external affairs at The Durst Organization.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following piece was written by Jessica Scoones of Deansboro, a senior renewable energy engineering major at Alfred University who is a member of Team NY Alfred, a group of students from both AU and Alfred State College collaborating in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon 2015 Oct. 8-18 at the Orange County Great Park, Irvine, CA. Team NY Alfred will be competing against 13 student teams from across the country.


‘Prophets & Epistles’ on view in Mooney ’80 gallery exhibition 9/10/15

Joe Mooney MFA ’80 will host an opening reception for his new exhibit, “Prophets & Epistles,” Saturday, Sept. 19 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Sykes Gallery, Millersville University, Millersville, PA. Joe will give an artist’s talk at 4 p.m. The show runs from Monday, Sept. 14-Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015.


Stein’s ’11 ‘Bee Space’ takes up residence in Brooklyn Heights 9/10/15

The Forum @ St. Ann’s, Brooklyn Heights, NY will present  “Bee Space,” an installation of glass works by Emma Stein, AU Class of 2011, in the sanctuary of historic St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church, Sunday, Sept. 13 – Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015. An artist’s talk and reception are scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 12, 6- 8 p.m. in the church sanctuary.

Emma - a glass artist, educator, and new beekeeper - says she is influenced by the beauty of nature, the need to honor plant diversity and bee survival. The artist created two works specifically for the St. Ann’s historic landmark sanctuary.


Au ’09 offering ‘Frame of Reference’ at Iowa City gallery 9/10/15

Iowa City ceramic artist Eliza Au, AU Class of 2009, is featured in the first exhibit of the 2015-16 season at Wartburg College’s Schmidt Art Gallery, Waverly, Iowa. Her “Frame of Reference” runs through Sunday, Oct. 25. There will be an opening reception featuring a gallery talk by Au be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.


News Image Truk ’95 reveals ‘Wishful Intentions’ 9/03/15

There will be a public opening reception for artist Katie Truk’s site-specific installation “Wishful Intentions” on Friday, Sept. 18 at The Center for Contemporary Art (CCA), Bedminster, NJ, from 6-8 p.m.

Katie (Trukenbrod), AU Class of 1995, works entirely with wire and pantyhose, which she began experimenting with while an undergraduate.

Jordan Baker-Caldwell, AU Class of 2005, writes that his interview with Sandra Bookman will air Sunday, Sept. 13 at noon on an episode of ABC’s “Here and Now.” “I had the amazing opportunity to sit down with Ms. Bookman and talk about ‘Ascension,’ my recent metal work, and some new projects I have coming up.”
