AKO sisterhood selects new leadership 6/17/15

The sisterhood of Alpha Kappa Omicron (AKO) announces the selection of new co-presidents.

Danielle Johnson-Kutch ’03 and Meghan Martin Smith ’04 are the new leaders of the AKO Alumni Association Board, effective June 13, 2015.

News Image Scheer ’84 looks ‘Through a Dirty Window’ 6/11/15

Joseph Scheer ’84, professor of printmaking in the School of Art and Design at AU, has a new of way of producing and presenting his work. He makes photo books of multiple unbound individual pages in sequence and wooden boxes to contain them.

Some of his boxed books and framed individual photos – selected from the books for the most part – are on exhibit in “Joseph Scheer: Through a Dirty Window” at the Western New York Book Arts Center through Friday, June 26.


News Image Retrospective of work by Tetkowski ’77 displayed in Ontario, Canada gallery 6/11/15

A retrospective exhibition of work by Neil Tetkowski, AU Class of 1977, is currently on view at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

“Rethinking Mythos: A Mid-career Retrospective of Neil Tetkowski” represents Neil’s nearly 40-year career. The range of the featured works includes ceramic sculpture, photo and video installations, and monumental works included in the “Common Ground World Project.

Credential files (letters of recommendation, certifications) are maintained at the Career Development Center for 10 years after graduation. Pre-Health and Pre-Vet folders are maintained indefinitely.


News Image Higby-Flowers ’11 installing ‘System Politics’ at the Ground Floor Gallery, Nashville 6/04/15

This Saturday, June 6, multimedia artist Morgan Higby-Flowers, AU Class of 2011, will open his latest video installation, “System Politics,” at Ground Floor Gallery and Studios in the Wedgewood-Houston arts district, Nashville.

Described as “glitchy and dissonant,” Morgan’s work “is focused on his interest in discarded technologies, system limitations, code and ‘dirty new media,’ a branch of new media art that subverts and distorts common technology. Using obsolete analog and digital equipment, Higby-Flowers creates ‘no-input’ systems that produce their own inherent visual and audial elements.”

Marine paintings by Nicholas Berger, AU Class of 1972,  are included in “From Shore To Shore: Boatbuilders and Boatyards of Long Island,” an exhibition running  through Sept. 18, 2015 at the newly restored wing of the Suffolk County Historical Society in Riverhead, NY.


Art by Goldenberg ’74 selected for ‘California Now’ juried exhibit 6/04/15

Art by Eileen P. Goldenberg, AU Class of 1974, has been selected for “California Now,” a clay, glass, and enamel juried exhibit which debuts with an opening reception Saturday, June 13, from 5-7 p.m. in the South and West Galleries at the Richmond Art Center, Richmond, CA.


News Image MFA grad awarded Fulbright to study natural dye extraction in urban Tromso, Norway 6/02/15

Timothy Gonchoroff, a recent graduate of the master of fine arts program in the School of Art and Design at Alfred University (AU), is the recipient of a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to Norway.

The United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced that Gonchoroff will research and document the natural dyes extracted from alien plant species growing within the urban environment of Tromsø, Norway.

The “Hubs and Spokes with Alfred Blokes” tour will kick off on Sunday, June 7 in Auburn, N. This year, the group will enjoy two-day stays and regional exploring in Auburn, Canandaigua, and Letchworth State Park members make their way to Alfred for Reunion Weekend 2015, June 12-15.
