Employer Advisory Board

The Employer Advisory Board is a non-fiduciary volunteer board which advises the Career Development Center at Alfred University. 

To provide a forum for employers and the Alfred University Career Development staff to engage in relevant discussion regarding a wide variety of career and employment issues from outside the University.  Information gathered from these discussions will contribute to the quality and impact of career programs and services for Alfred University students.

Jessica Carroll started with Enterprise 9 years ago after attending SUNY Oswego where she studied History. She began as a Management Trainee and worked her way through the management ranks eventually making it to branch manager where Jessica was responsible for driving customer service, operating profit, growth and employee development. Jessica began in Talent Acquisition 3 ½ years into her Enterprise career where she first recruited for New York City then to Long Island. On Long Island, Jessica oversaw hiring for the region and was recognized for her excellence in recruitment. In her current role, Jessica now heads Talent Acquisition for the Upstate NY Group.

Cindy Lewis-Black, Class of 2000, is the Senior Manager of Business Partnerships at Watkins Glen International. She has been in her current role for the past 4 years. At WGI, Cindy manages a 100-person volunteer program, handles displays at racing events, oversees the Finger Lakes Wine Festival, is the account rep for many track partners, and organizes many of the tracks’ special events. Cindy resides in Corning, NY with her son.

Chris , Class of 1997, 1998, 2004 recieved his Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate from Alfred University in Materials Science & Ceramic Engineering. His areas of expertise are in Project and functional management, Gas exchange behavior and Defects and characterization, process response, and source understanding.

Bruce Kulp
Bruce Kulp

McComsey Career Development Center at Alfred University

Bruce Kulp is currently an Expert in Residence at the Career Development Center of Alfred University since 1998, where he has provided volunteer support in student career counseling, as well as lecturing on networking and interview preparation for the CDC. He also has supported the CDC staff through strategic direction discussions on projects, such as the development of LinkedIn for student use at AU. Mr. Kulp has been an Honorary Alumnus of Alfred University since 2000.

He has also been an Executive in Residence at the Alfred University College of Business since 1997, lecturing on new innovations in e-commerce, ERP systems, security and global data communications, technology, networking and voice communications to undergraduate and graduate business students.

Mr. Kulp spent over 30 years pursuing a variety of executive and management positions in Data and Voice/VoIP communications at a regional, national and global level including Doyle Security, Excel Computers, Frontier Communications/Global Crossing, One Communications and Globalinx and VoIP Logic. He has worked on the development of a variety of innovative Networking and Internet based telephony technologies including: Managed Access, Managed Services, Managed Security, IP-VPN and Voice/VoIP services. He has recently retired from full-time employment and is currently a Consultant for VoIP Logic of Massachusetts. Bruce graduated with a BS from the University of Rochester in 1976.

Chris Robinson

Director of Global Sales

Christopher B. Robinson is a 1986 Cum Laude graduate of The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University with a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering, and a 1998 graduate of The State University of New York at Buffalo where he received his MBA.  Chris also studied at the Houldsworth School of Applied Science at the University of Leeds in the U.K.  Chris joined Unifrax I LLC (formerly The Carborundum Company) as a co-op student in 1983 and has spent his entire career at Unifrax in technical Sales and Marketing.  Chris received U.S. Patent No. 5,989,736 for the invention of “Carbon Fiber and Ceramic Fiber Paper Composites and Uses Therefor” and the British Petroleum Award for Innovation.  Both of these awards were for Chris’ work in the development of automotive airbags.    

Chris is most proud of his wife Cindy for pursuing an education after raising their three children.  Cindy obtained both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education (the latter with a G.P.A. of 4.0) from The State University of New York College at Buffalo and is currently a Special Education teacher in the same Grand Island School District Chris attended as a child.  Two of Cindy & Chris’ three children (Zachary & Emma) graduated from Alfred University. 

Chris met Cindy coaching New Jersey Special Olympics.  The couple reside in East Amherst, New York.

Tara is the Vice President of Snow Hill Inc. and is a Long Island native who came to Alfred University to pursue a ceramic art education. After graduating with her BFA in 2011 Tara married Matthew [Snyder]. Playing a primary role in incorporation of Snow Hill Inc., she continues to be a core attribute to the company’s strategic planning and implementation of new business initiatives. Tara is also the acting Treasurer and Board member for the Alfred Area Business Association chapter of the Greater Allegany Chamber of Commerce. In addition to Tara's roll in the business she also is a stay-at-home-mother of two young children and is very active in her local church Lighthouse Christian Fellowship

Steve Harriger

Marketing Director

Steve Harriger is currently the Marketing Director for Steuben Trust Company in Hornell, NY. He joined Steuben in May of 2016 after working 13 years for Northern Lights Candles, most recently in the positions of Art Director, Large Account Sales, and IT Manager. He has also worked with several non-profit and for-profit companies developing branding solutions, marketing strategies as well as providing graphic design services. Steve brings the knowledge gained from his diverse experiences to his current position. He believes that targeted marketing strategies, based on analytics, in conjunction with impactful visual communication can generate greater brand recognition and consumer support. Additionally, he believes networking and relationship building are essential to personal growth and company success.

Mr. Harriger is a 2003 BFA graduate from Alfred University and also worked as an adjunct teacher for the University in 2009 & 2010. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the SPCA serving Allegany County and the Marketing Chair for the Laila Rose Foundation. Steve also served as a member of the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 2013 to 2016. Steve currently resides in Belfast, NY with his two Children, Devin and Monica, He owns and operates two small businesses, Bare Knuckle Bait & Tackle and GBG Studios. In his free time, he can be found kayaking, fishing and enjoying nature.

Josh Dahlman is a 1997 graduate of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University and is the General Manager at Silicon Carbide Products. He is a 20 year leader with worldwide technology, operations and management experience in the ceramic and glass world. With multiple domestic and international positions (Asia, Europe, US) he has a broad background in technology delivery, setting and executing corporate strategy, multi-million dollar project leadership and billion dollar startup asset/operations management. He is focused on driving bottom-lineresults directly aimed at realizing net income and business growth. Whether it be increasing profits, reducing losses, growth opportunities, retention, or streamlining, he ispassionate about doing theseboth strategically and tactically through the development and inclusionof a high-performing team.

Josh volunteers as both an executive coach and youth coach and enjoys spending free time with his amazing wife, Bernadette, and children, Morgan and Brody.

Mike Carson
Mike Carson

Senior Staff Engineer

Mike Carson is a Senior Staff Engineer working in the Advanced Development and Vitreous Support division of Kohler Co., at Kohler, Wisconsin. He is originally from Montour Falls, New York not far from Corning, where he spent many hours watching and learning about the manufacture of fine glass products, something that left a lasting impression on him.

His collegiate career began with the goal of becoming an Art teacher. As a Fine Art major, he was introduced to ceramics where he began making simple shapes on the potter’s wheel. That class struck something in him and he changed majors to pursue a degree in Fine Arts Ceramics, graduating with his BFA in 2000. Since that time he has held jobs in the ceramic industry such as studio potter, ware flow technologist, ceramic technologist, color development and now ceramic engineer. His technical education comes, in large part, from hands on experience and reading.

While at Kohler, Mike has helped launch new colors, developed new slips and glazes which reduce fuel consumption and costly additives during production and is working on clean water efforts. He travels to other plant locations in North America and abroad to participate in development projects, continuous improvement efforts and technical troubleshooting.

Elementary School Principal

Bob Woughter is the elementary school principal at Alfred Almond Central School in Almond, NY. Prior to that he taught fourth and sixth grade at Alfred Almond, and coached the varsity swim team. Bob has his administrative certificate from Brockport, a master’s degree from Alfred University and a bachelor’s degree from Geneseo. He lives in Almond with his wife Kathy and two sons, Zachary and Daniel. Bob loves hiking and is an Adirondack 46-er, hoping to conquer the White Mountains and Colorado Fourteeners next.

Matt Creedon

Matt holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in ceramics from Alfred and has worked in the industry for over 30 years, primarily in new product and process development and has held development positions with several companies including United Technologies, Allied Signal, Ferro, and Saint Gobain. Currently, he is the research and development manager at Washington Mills in Niagara Falls, NY. He’s also actively involved in the American Ceramic Society’s Manufacturing Division and Western New York Section. Matt became involved in the Career Center at Alfred as a means of helping students prepare for entry into the working world, to help promotion of the ceramics field of study and to provide the Career Center with feedback on areas where student development is most needed. A native of Florida, Matt has made Western New York his home for the past 25 years and lives in Kenmore, NY.

With 20+ years of experience in Education as a Career Coach empowering students to make positive and smooth transitions to School/Work/Military careers.

He is also, a U.S. Navy Vietnam Veteran; U.S. Army Reserve Instructor activated during Desert Storm and retired with 21 years’ service.

Corinna McKnight has been employed with Allegany Arc since November 2008. In her current position as Chief Operations Officer, Corinna is responsible for several programs to include residential, dayhab, nursing and human resources. Corinna received her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from SUNY Empire State College. Currently she is the Board Secretary for the Greater Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. She lives in Angelica with her husband Dean and son Ryley.
