Alfred University Athletics and the Empire 8 Conference intend to resume conference athletic competition with all of its sports in the Spring 2021 semester.

The league approved March 1 as a tentative start of a reduced, conference-only schedule for fall and winter teams (football, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track and field, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track and field and men’s and women’s basketball) and a full schedule for traditional spring sports (men’s tennis, men’s and women’s lacrosse and softball). Varsity sports such as hunt seat, western, and dressage equestrian, as well as stunt cheerleading and alpine skiing will also adhere to this start date.

The safety and well-being of its student-athletes and campus communities remains the primary goal of Alfred University. As such, these plans are contingent upon federal, state and local health guidance and the status of all contests will be subject to the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Alfred University and the Empire 8 continues to support the NCAA Guidelines for the Resocialization of Sport and developed a detailed Pandemic Protocol Handbook. These plans include a rigorous testing strategy as well as protocols for travel and meals to ensure health and safety of all participants.
