Arrival

Students:

  • Those students who have not already provided proof of vaccination will be required to show proof upon arrival
  • Vaccine clinics will be conducted on January 21st and 27th in the McLane Center for those who were only able to get 1 dose of vaccine, or who were unable to access a vaccine provider in their home region
  • International students who arrive unvaccinated will be required to be tested upon arrival, and to quarantine pending receipt of test results
  • Off-campus students will be subject to the same requirements and restrictions as on-campus students
  • Students who are scheduled to be vaccinated in the AU clinics will be subject to weekly COVID testing, which will continue through their full vaccination period and the 14-day post vaccination waiting period
  • Students will be required to bring face coverings or masks with them when returning to Alfred, and to wear them in all campus buildings, including classrooms, libraries, student centers, residence hall common areas and dining halls (except when eating), and outside when social distancing is not possible
  • Returning on-campus students will be allowed to have two people assist them with move-in, who will also be subject to masking requirements
  • Masks will be required to be worn in all campus buildings except when eating in dining facilities, and outside when social distancing is not possible

  • Surveillance testing will be conducted weekly, for unvaccinated students, using the Abbott Binax Now or Abbott ID Now antigen tests
  • Students reporting symptoms will be directed to call the Wellness Center for a telephonic consultation; these students will be administered an influenza and a COVID-19 test; students testing positive will be placed in immediate isolation, reported to the Allegany County Department of Health; contact tracing will be initiated immediately
  • If the result of the COVID-19 test is negative and students are asymptomatic, they will be allowed to return to their residence halls and classes
  • Specific residence halls (Crawford and Davis) have been set aside for quarantine and isolation space
  • Allegany County Department of Health and the Alfred Village emergency response team has been notified of Alfred University’s isolation and quarantine facilities and plans; in addition, students who test positive will be reported on a daily and weekly basis to the Allegany County Department of Health
  • Students who are isolated will not be able to return to their residence halls or classes for a minimum of 10 days, and they must be free of symptoms and fever-free for 3 days without a fever reducer
  • Residence Life and other staff will assist with delivering food and other necessities to those in quarantine or isolation
  • In collaboration with the Allegany County Department of Health (ACDOH), the Wellness Center will perform contact tracing for all students testing positive for COVID-19
  • In the event of the need to complete contact tracing for campus visitors through the Department of Health, the Wellness Center will contact the applicable Department of Health and inform them of a positive test result
  • Contact tracing for faculty and staff will be performed by the health department in the county in which they reside
  • Students identified through contact tracing who have come in contact with a person under investigation or someone who tested positive for COVID-19 will be monitored for symptoms and tested, if applicable
  • Alfred University’s Wellness Center will collaborate with the county health departments to ensure a seamless tracing process and timely reporting
  • All policies and procedures will be enforced in response to non-compliance for both on- and off-campus students, at the discretion of the Office of Student Wellbeing, and based on Alfred University’s applicable Student Code of Conduct
  • The conduct process will enforce violations of the student code of conduct (Respect: Harm to Persons; Responsibility: Failure to Comply) for failure to comply with daily health screening, failure to wear face coverings, or failure to follow social distancing requirements with all students, whether they reside on- or off-campus
  • Following the recommendations of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD), counselors will continue to see students virtually for intakes unless there is a specific need for in-person counseling
  • Visitors must comply with all safety and conduct requirements while on campus, including the requirement to wear face coverings/masks in all campus buildings, and outside when social distancing is not possible
  • Campus visitors must have pre-scheduled and confirmed appointments with those they are visiting
  • Access to all residence halls will be limited Alfred University enrolled students, except during move-in, during which students moving in will be allowed to have 2 individuals helping them
  • In the event of the need to support contact tracing through the Allegany County Department of Health, we will develop a system that provides the names and contact information for visitors that may have been exposed to an infected person on campus
  • Residence hall assistants and directors will enforce the visitor policy in the residence halls with support from Public Safety; any guest found in a residence hall will be asked to leave, and the host student will be subject to the student conduct process
