Current Research
My research concentrates on the topic that was the focus for my PhD dissertation: the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's response to a pyscho-social phenomenon referred to as hikikomori. Hikikomori is a syndrome which has appeared among Japan's male adolescents over the last twenty years; the main symptom is for these young men to either virtually or literally lock themselves away in their rooms for months, years or sometimes even decades at a time, with minimal social contact.

I have drawn and painted since I was little, and I continue to do so now. I am always working on some canvas, creating ideas and images. I enjoy film, opera and especially ballet. Inspired by my daughter - who is seriously considering a career in ballet - I go to see professional companies whenever and wherever I can. Travel has been a big part of my life since I was a teenager - I have visited around 50 countries in my life, on five continents, and loved every minute and mile.

Classes Taught
I have taught a variety of courses throughout my academic career: Corporate Strategy; Organizational Behavior; Leadership and Management; International Business; Global Management and Leadership; Ethics; Creativity and Innovative Thinking, as well as student field trips to France, Brazil and Japan. In Alfred I will be teaching International Business and Creativity and Innovative Thinking.

Previously I was the Director of Business Programs at Chatham University in Pittsburgh and before that the Director of MBA Programs and International Programs at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. I have had my own small graphics design company located in Europe, and I moved back and forth in-between Europe and Asia, doing designs for clients and holding exhibitions of my paintings and drawings. Before that I was the Senior Representative for a division of Dow-Jones in Tokyo Japan, and worked on Wall Street for several years. I have also consulted for U.S. companies doing business with Japan. I have lived and worked in Japan for 12 years and speak the language fluently and read it quite well. I speak French quite badly and have minimal Greek.
