Position Title: Dean, Business School
Location: Alfred University
 
Responsibilities: The Business School at Alfred University, an AACSB Accredited Institution ("The School"), is seeking an experienced leader with an entrepreneurial spirit to join our team as the new Dean. The School provides students a high quality, integrated business education within a personalized learning environment that emphasizes intellectual challenge and business relevance. Our students develop the skills needed by employers through a rigorous foundation in business and liberal arts. The School offers undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, and Marketing; as well as, an MBA with concentrations in Accounting and Business. All programs within the School are AACSB - International accredited. There are approximately 250 students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs. There are 13 full-time faculty positions, three support staff, and approximately ten adjunct faculty.

The School is "teaching" focused and prides itself on the close working relationship between faculty and students integrating experiential learning in projects throughout the students’ educational journey. Research plays an important role within the School for accreditation, faculty and student development, and cross-disciplinary interactions. The educational opportunities include but are not limited to, internships, research participation and presentation, entrepreneurship competitions, and study abroad programs. There are current initiatives in developing online and off- site learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate studies.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Dean is the Chief Academic Officer for the School, responsible for leading it into greater growth and prominence by pursuing excellence in educational programs. The Dean is responsible for the academic and research missions of the School including review and approval of all academic programs and policies, as well as the appointment, promotion, development, and support of a diverse faculty and staff. The Dean is also responsible for the overall quality of academic and research programs, maintenance of AACSB accreditation, and will be expected to develop initiatives in the School that will contribute to the University’s strategic plan. The Dean will collaborate as a member of the President’s Executive Council and the Provost’s Deans’ Council.

Requirements: Required qualifications for the successful candidate include either an earned doctorate/terminal degree in a business related field or a master’s degree with equivalent senior business leadership experience. The qualified candidate will have successful leadership experience at the chair, assistant/associate Dean or Dean or comparable level with a prominent research background. Significant successful business experience at the administrative level will be considered. The Dean may be considered for tenure in accord with policies of the Board of Trustees and the University.

The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to establish and leverage sustainable relationships with businesses, education, and other constituencies to support student recruiting, provide student internships and career opportunities, scholarships, and to develop fundraising opportunities.

In addition, we seek a leader who can collaborate and communicate effectively, and who demonstrates: evidence of visionary leadership in organizational change and management, while articulating a clear vision and goals for the future; experience designing and implementing new programs and initiatives both on and off campus; and, in marshalling and deploying resources to achieve strategic ends. The ideal candidate has strong experience with AACSB accreditation requirements and processes, including effective assessment of programs. Further, the ideal candidate has a creative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial mindset.
