Mozart's Musical Curiosities

Dennis James returns to present another entertaining Informance Performance, which will feature original early music of W.A. Mozart, Friday, July 17 at noon in Holmes Auditorium, Harder Hall – a Free Event.

Dennis JamesThis one hour visual projections illustrated presentation includes delicate performances of his rarely heard music composition oddities from very first compositions written when he was between 3 to 5 years of age and leads to presentation of his musical dice game enabling audience-participant creation of a “new” Mozart composition. Music for children's theatre and his mechanical clockwork music compositions plus early 18th c. works by his equally talented sister Nannerl and a rarely heard work by his musical father Leopold expand the presentation of Mozart oddities.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his first compositions at age three when developing a family musicians tour with his father and sister, something that led to astounding the resplendent European courts and making the young Amadeus Mozart become one of the most celebrated musicians of the day. His compositional activities continued to develop young age six and again with publication at eight introducing his compositional specialties within an active performing career.

Mr. James’ new program opens with rarely heard stories about, and demonstrations of, the earliest compositions of this child music genius. Mozart’s omnivorous expansion approach (as in avidly taking in everything as if devouring or consuming manner) to musical activities evolved into a variety of contributions within the diverse musical cultures of his time.
