As she walked across the stage in the Galanis Family Arena to receive her Alfred University degree Saturday morning, a young woman handed President Mark Zupan a note that had been folded, and folded, and folded. When he opened it, he found a heartfelt message the echoed the remarks Warren Sutton had delivered earlier in the ceremony after receiving an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Alfred University at the beginning of the 181st Commencement ceremony in the Galanis Family Arena at McLane Center.

With the blast from a whistle, a contingent of helpers sprang into action. A chandelier – lighted – glided down from the ceiling of the McLane Center at Alfred University on the basketball backboard. Pennants and ribbons unfurled and crisscrossed the Galanis Family Arena where more than 500 Alfred University students, along with faculty, family and friends gathered for Alfred University’s 181st Commencement.

Dr. George Beall jokingly told the 2017 graduates of Alfred University Saturday morning that he had three other degrees, including a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but the one he had just received “is my first degree in materials science.”

Alfred University’s undergraduate business school among top-rated in New York State

Alfred University’s undergraduate programs in business are among the top 25 in New York State, according to a new ranking released Monday by Top Management Degrees. Among the 100 undergraduate business programs in New York State evaluated by Top Management Degrees, Alfred University ranked 21.

Chi Sigma Iota chapter established at Alfred University

The Counseling Program at Alfred University is proud to announce the chartering of a new chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an international honor society that recognizes and promotes academic and professional excellence in counseling.  The chapter has been designated Alpha Upsilon Xi and will be led by faculty advisors Dr. Jaime Castillo and Dr. Kevin Curtin.

Still time to join Alfred University's biking alumni

It was at the dawn of the new century — 2003 to be exact — that a group of Alfred University alumni from the class of 1958 decided to start something special for their 45th college reunion. Roger Eiss, Russ Fahey, Elliott Lasky, Andy Seaman, and Dave Wilcox turned Reunion Weekend into a week-long adventure by cycling 250 miles from north of Philadelphia to Alfred, crossing the Pocono Mountains. 

And a tradition was born. 

Alfred University to hold 2017 Downstate commencement ceremony June 2

Alfred University will hold its 2017 commencement ceremony for graduates of its Downstate Programs at 6:30 pm Friday, June 2 at the Brooklyn Center for Performing Arts at Brooklyn College.
