Alfred University pioneers New York’s first program in patient-care management

Alfred University, known as the ‘pioneer college of Western New York,” marked another milestone Wednesday with the awarding of the first-ever post-baccalaureate certificates in patient-care management to 34 students in a New York City-based program.

Aaron Heminway, a New York State Parks biologist, will open the 2017-18 Environmental Studies Speakers Series at Alfred University with a talk on “NYS Parks – Public Lands and Biological Preserves.”

Alumna earns first place in age class in California marathon

Elisabeth Phillips-Jones ’12 finished the Hombolt Bay Marathon last month with a time of 3:15:09, earning her the 18th spot overall. She was second among women of all ages, and first among women ages 25-29. The race was in Eureka, CA, on Aug. 13.

Alfred University alumnae to exhibit work at Cohen Gallery

Alfred University’s Cohen Gallery on Main Street will open its 2017-18 exhibitions Friday, Sept. 15, with shows by two 2001 alumnae of the School of Art & Design. Liz Ainslie’s “The Part of Sight” and Desiree Leary’s “Real Lookers” will open with a reception from 6-9pm.

Journey West to perform at Alfred University Sept. 8 Refugee musicians join ‘Journey West’ in concert at Alfred University Sept. 8

Journey West will perform Friday Sept. 8, at 8 pm, at Holmes Auditorium in Harder Hall on the campus of Alfred University. The ensemble will be joined by refugee musicians from Iraq and Syria, who will share their remarkable stories and music.

Alfred University ranks in the top 23 percent of four-year colleges and universities in the country for its record in giving students meaningful employment and helping them to meet college costs through the Federal Work-Study Program.
