Visit the Parent Programs Table at New Student Check-in
Joyce & Walton Health & Wellness Center (McLane Annex)
Stop by the Parent Programs table while your son or daughter is checking in to say hello and pick up your copy of the AU Parent Handbook, Fall Family Weekend Tentative Schedule, Parents Mission Statement and Philosophy on Parents as Partners information.
Multicultural Parent Information Session
Kenyon/Allen Room, Powell Campus Center
Dr. Brian Saltsman, Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion will be moderating a “meet-and-greet” session for parents and families. This will include an introduction to some of the clubs, offices and staff available at AU for our community. It will also be an opportunity for parents and families to connect with one another. Light refreshments will be available.
All students and family members are invited to join the campus for our annual kick-off picnic.
General College Sessions and Advising Hours (Required for Students)
Students meet the college Deans. This will be followed by an advising session for students only.

- College of Business – Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center
- Inamori School of Engineering – Ade Dining Hall

Long Distance Parenting

Presented by Dean of Student Wellbeing. Hear helpful suggestions and answers to such questions as “What is the parents’ role now?” and “What kind of support can families offer from afar?”
Allen Walk and Opening Convocation
Students process to McLane through “Allen Walk” to officially begin our 184th year of learning. Opening Convocation is an important event to welcome students to their new journey at Alfred University. We hope parents will stay to witness this memorable first lecture of their college career.
Free Time and Goodbyes Throughout Campus
This is the ideal time to help your son or daughter finish moving into their room, offer any last words of advice and encouragement, and say goodbye.
Dinner for Students
This dinner is for students only but area restaurants welcome parents. Please see the restaurant list in the Parents Handbook for suggestions.
