Veteran Alfred University alumni bicyclists Tinker Wilcox ’57 and her husband Dave Wilcox ’58 will head east from Arizona in their motor home to meet with other alumni cyclists in Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio.  Tinker Wilcox is returning for her 60th reunion with her nursing class, and the Wilcox’s have been involved in several alumni rides over the years dating back to 1998 when Alfred University alumni Roger Eiss ‘58, Elliott Lasky ’58, Russ Fahey ’58 and others organized the first reunion bike ride for their 40th reunion.

Other alumni taking on the adventure this year include veteran bikers Kate and Dave Perry ’61, Denise ’69 and Larry Ploetz ’68, and Jim Randall ’77. Speaking for the cyclists, Randall invites other alumni to join the group!  Cyclists are welcome to take part in the entire ride, ride with the group for a day or two, or meet fellow alumna for lunch, dinner, or sightseeing along the way.

The cycling will begin June 4 at Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio, where alumni may begin congregating on June 2 or 3. The resort village began attracting tourists to Lake Erie in the nineteenth century and is recognized as Ohio’s first summer resort.  It is also the center of Ohio wine country, with several wineries located nearby.

The tour moves to Erie, Pa., where bikers will spend two nights and tour Presque Isle State Park. The park occupies a sandy peninsula jutting into Lake Erie and containing a 13-mile paved bike path that follows the circumference of the island. Cyclists can enjoy spectacular wildlife viewing and historic sites from the War of 1812.

The final stop on the tour is the familiar Letchworth State Park, where bikers will challenge the hills of Park Road. The group will spend one night in the park before pushing on to Hornell for one more night before pedaling into Alfred Friday morning, June 9.

Some alumni also are meeting early in Cleveland for sightseeing and a Cleveland Indians baseball game.  For those interested in taking in the sights (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, and the USS Cod submarine all located at the waterfront), the group plans to stay in Cleveland Thursday, June 1 and Friday, June 2.
