Alfred University SAB concerts announced

Alfred University’s Student Activities Board has announced the lineup for this year’s big concert to be held on April 8, 2017. The headliner is rock band Never Shout Never with supporting acts Murs, SHAED, and The Wrecks.

The event, titled DOG-fest IV, will begin at 6 p.m. and run until midnight. It is possible the concert will be held outdoors, but a more likely venue is McLane Center’s Galanis Family Arena.

Tickets are available through the Center for Student Involvement by contacting More 500 tickets have been made available for current students through the generosity of alumni and former Alfred University concert producers Lee Breck, Jason Gray, Matt Gardner, and Colby Cotton. More donations are rolling in from SAB alumni with the hopes of offering the free concert experience to over one thousand current students.

The Student Activities Board has been producing large concerts for nearly half a decade. Performers have included Maroon 5, Black Eyed Peas, Alanis Morsette, Gym Class Heroes, American Authors, Iron and Wine and comedians Adam Sandler and Zach Galifianakis. Due to a limited budget, the bands are rarely superstars at the time of visiting Alfred; they are, however, often rising toward super stardom

“The Student Activities Board is often given the impossible task of bringing an artist to please every student,” says AU senior Zack Shaw, the 2017 concert chair. “Our D.O.G.-fest concert stands for Diversity of Genres, as we try to bring smaller, rising artists from different music scenes. This year features various styles of rock and hip hop.”

“I love that alums - past concert producers – are giving back to what was often a thankless and back-breaking job for many of them,” adds Dan Napolitano, SAB advisor for the past twenty years. “It isn’t until years later that their peers appreciated Maroon 5 or Black Eyed Peas coming to Alfred - once they’ve made it big. I keep telling students that they’ll regret not seeing these upcoming bands now while they’re visiting Alfred.”

The upcoming concert is open to the public with general admission tickets available for $10 by contacting for an on-line link for purchase. Questions can be directed to the same e-mail address.
