Ceramic Art Museum nurtures network of museums in western New York
The Alfred Ceramic Art Museum this week hosted a visit from the Docent Travel Committee of Rochester’s Memorial Art Gallery, a group of about 25 docents who toured the museum and visited MFA thesis exhibitions by Alfred University students YehRim Lee, Morgan Rose Free, Lea Griggs and Yu Xin. The MFA exhibitions are located in the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery and the Robert C. Turner Student Gallery on the University campus.
“This is a great example of how we are beginning to collaborate with other museums in our region,” said Caitlin Brown, operations and programs manager at the Ceramic Arts Museum. Brown noted the museum is one of a cluster of renowned museums located in Rochester, Buffalo, Corning, Ithaca and Syracuse. Expanding relationships between those institutions is a part of a larger process of fostering arts in western New York.
Brown said docents from Memorial Art Gallery met with Wayne Higby, director and chief curator of the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum, and visited the Miller Performing Arts Center for a viewing of Higby’s installation EarthCloud. The group also enjoyed lunch in the Village of Alfred before viewing the MFA thesis exhibitions on the University campus.
