Two guest artists assisting with theatrical production at Alfred University

ALFRED, NY – Two recent graduates of the Yale University School of Drama will be assisting with Alfred University’s upcoming production of the play Eurydice.

Izmir Ickbal and Fan Zhang are working with the Alfred University’s Theater Department on the production. Eurydice, written by Sarah Rule, is an enchanting contemporary retelling of the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. The play is directed by Stephen Crosby, professor of theater at Alfred University, and will run Nov. 15-18, at 7:30 p.m. each night, in CD Smith Theater, Miller Performing Arts Center.

Ickbal, a visiting professor of design (scenic and lighting) in the Alfred University Theater Department, holds a Master’s in Fine Arts degree from Yale School of Drama (2016).

His New York City design credits include Happy Days starring Diane Wiest (Theater For A New Audience), Twelfth Night (Irondale Center, New School), The Late Wedding and 1001 (Teatro LATEA, Columbia Stages), The Taming of Cats (Brick Theater). His other credits include Big River: Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Unquowa Repertory Theater), Happy Days (Yale Repertory Theater), Deer and the Lovers, and The Troublesome Reign of King John (Yale School of Drama), Cloud Tectonics, Touch (Yale Cabaret); Dairyland, and The Guadalupe (Chautauqua Theater Company); Nanyang: the musical (International Festival of Arts, Singapore), Yusof, The Gunpowder Trail, Hearth (The Esplanade Theatre Studio, Singapore); Nadirah, Charged and Not Counted (Teater Ekamatra, Singapore).

Zhang is a multimedia sound designer and composer whose music exists at an artistic crossroads of theatre, film scoring, orchestral, electronic, storytelling, installation art and noise. She holds an MFA in sound design from Yale School of Drama, earned in 2017.

Her recent sound design and original music credits include: Redeem (Cincinnati Ballet), A Footnote In History (New Ohio Theatre), Tania In The Getaway Van (The Flea Theatre), Mecca’s Tale (The Sheen Center & Middlesex County Theatre), Father Comes Home From The War (Juilliard School), Seven Guitars (Yale Rep), Return On A Snowy Night (National Centre for the Performing Arts of China), New Domestic Architecture (11th Carlotta Festival), Caught (Yale Cabaret).
