Renowned ceramic artists tour Alfred Ceramic Art Museum
ALFRED, NY – A group of noted ceramic artists from the 2017 Flower City Pottery Invitational, which include several Alfred University faculty and alumni, toured the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum on Oct. 16.
The Flower City Pottery Invitational is an annual event organized through the Flower City Arts Center in Rochester. Planning for the inaugural event began in early 2014 when area potters Matt Metz (Alfred, NY) and Richard Aerni (Rochester) discussed bringing fellow esteemed ceramic artists together for a weekend exhibit, following the example of similar shows like the Old Church Pottery Invitational in Demarest, NJ, and the popular American Pottery Festival in Minneapolis, MN.
Metz and Aerni partnered with Flower City Arts Center and, together with artist Peter Pincus (Alfred ’05, ’11) invited colleagues from around the country to participate in the inaugural event in October 2015. The 2017 Flower City Pottery Invitational was held Oct. 13-15.
Alfred University alumni and faculty in the Flower City Pottery Invitational include: Andrea Gill (MFA, Alfred ’76; professor of ceramic arts emeriti), Adero Willard (’95), Kristen Kieffer (’95), Steve Godfrey (’96), Brian Jones (’01), Pincus and Matt Kelleher (assistant professor of ceramics).
