Family of Alfred University student loses home in California wildfires

ALFRED, NY – The devastating wildfires that ravaged parts of Northern California destroyed thousands of homes, including one owned by the family of an Alfred University graduate student.

An on-line effort is under way to raise funds for the family of Ruth Easterbrook, who is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in ceramic art from Alfred University’s School of Art and Design. Her family home in Redwood Valley, CA, was destroyed by fire on Oct. 9.

The Easterbrook family was among more than 100,000 Northern Californians displaced by the wildfires, and their home was one of hundreds in rural Mendocino County destroyed by fire. Tim Easterbook, Ruth’s father, did not have insurance on his house. The family has started a fundraising page with hopes of raising $80,000 to replace the home.
