Alfred University physics professor to discuss solar eclipse trip at Bergren Forum
ALFRED, NY – At the Nov. 30 Bergren Forum, David Toot, professor of physics at Alfred University, will talk about a trip he and several others made to Missouri in August to witness the total solar eclipse.
The Bergren Forum, sponsored by the Division of Human Studies, is held at 12:10 p.m. each Thursday the University is in session in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center. It is open to the public, free of charge. Attendees may bring their lunches; coffee and tea are provided.
During his presentation, Toot will discuss the August excursion he and a group of 12 Alfred University students, faculty, staff and friends made to Union, MO, to observe the total eclipse of the sun. The group left Alfred Aug. 19 for Missouri and spent their nights in rustic cabins at Camp MoVal in Union, witnessing the eclipse on Aug. 21. The bus returned to Alfred the following day,
“Included in the eclectic group were astronomers, artists, anthropologists, engineers, and teachers,” Toot said. “The lively group not only got to see this amazing astronomical event, but had a great time getting to know each other, had lively talks over meals, checked out a major archeological site and more.”
Toot will describe the trip and show some photographs from it; others who accompanied him will be invited to share their experiences as well.
