Alfred University’s Shardlow elected Secretary of statewide HEOP organization
ALFRED, NY – Alfred University’s Nadine Shardlow has been elected to the executive council of a statewide organization of Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) professionals.
Shardlow, Opportunity Programs director at Alfred University, was recently elected secretary of New York state’s Higher Education Opportunity Program Professionals Organization (HEOPPO).
“This is a nice coup, as small colleges and universities don’t normally get elected to the state executive council,” said Kathy Woughter, vice president of Student Affairs at Alfred University. “I am thrilled to have so many people at Alfred running for offices in their professional organizations – it’s good for individuals and great for the University.”
Shardlow, a 1986 Alfred University graduate (B.S., psychology) has been Opportunity Programs director at Alfred since 2000, overseeing the University’s HEOP and Equal Opportunity Program (EOP).
The HEOP and EOP programs aim to recruit, enroll, and provide undergraduate academic and financial support to New York state high school graduates who meet the program qualifications. The programs target state residents who demonstrate that they come from historically disadvantaged backgrounds (academically and economically).
