Alfred University alumna appointed to lead NY Appeals Court
Justice Elizabeth Garry ’84 has been appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo as presiding justice of the Third Judicial Department of the New York Supreme Court’s Appellate Division; she was first appointed to Third Department in 2009. She was elected Supreme Court Justice for the Sixth Judicial District in 2006.
Garry is the first openly gay judge named to lead a NY Appeals Court.
Based in Albany, the Third Department hears appeals from 28 counties in eastern and central New York.
After graduating from Alfred University , Garry attended Albany Law School, graduating with honors
