Alfred University Food Pantry announces upcoming distribution dates
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University Food Pantry will hold its next distribution on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the pantry, located in the Judson Leadership Center, corner of Ford and Sayles streets.
The food pantry, which benefits students and members of the campus and local communities, opened in October, with the first distribution held on Oct. 21. The pantry was originally open once a month, but now distributes food every other Saturday. Upcoming dates during the spring semester are Feb. 3 and 17; March 3, 17 and 31; April 14 and 28; and May 3.
Organizers are asking for volunteers to assist with the distribution, collection of donated items and promoting the food pantry. Anyone interested in helping can email Kathy Woughter, vice president of Student Affairs at Alfred University, at email@example.com.
Non-perishable food items can be donated at various points on the Alfred University campus. Items in demand include: macaroni and cheese dinner, peanut butter, jelly, foods that can be cooked in a microwave oven or eaten out of the package, and pasta sauce. Also, food contained in smaller servings (rather than that which must be preserved in a refrigerator), easy-to-open packages and pop-top cans, as well as general non-perishables, are in the highest demand and are easiest to manage and store at the pantry.
In addition to the Judson Leadership Center, donated items can be dropped off at the information desk and Center for Student Involvement, Powell Campus Center, McLane Center, and the Science Center (Biology Department).
Anyone wishing to provide financial support for the food pantry should contact Woughter by phone at 607-871-2132 or by email.
