Alfred University Dance Theater includes work by visiting artist
ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University Division of Performing Arts will hold its February Dance Theater Feb. 15-17 at Miller Theater on the AU campus. Among the performers will be Nicole Stanton, the Marlin Miller Guest Artist.
The premier of new dance works will also include performances by four Alfred University dance students and faculty members D. Chase Angier, professor of dance, and Colleen Culley, visiting assistant professor of dance. Each evening’s performances begin at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
Stanton was in residency at Alfred University Jan. 29-Feb. 3, teaching five classes and creating original dance work with 12 Alfred University and Alfred State College students. She currently serves as associate professor of dance and is also a member of the faculty of the Environmental Studies and African American Studies programs at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.
Krystal Cooper, a 2012 AU graduate who earned a BA degree in theater (dance minor), assisted Stanton and the students in developing their dance program. Lighting director for the Feb. 15-17 concert is Izmir Ickbal, visiting assistant professor of performance design at Alfred University.
The four students premiering new dance works Feb. 15-17 are: seniors Briana Van Dorpe, Marc Widerman and Reed McLean, and junior Leanne Stephan. Van Vorpe, a psychology major from Slaotsburg, NY, is the daughter of Elizabeth Van Dorpe and Marcel Van Dorpe; Widerman, a mechanical engineering major from Chicago, is the son of Steven Widerman and Linda Bookheim; McLean, an art and design major from Norway, ME, is the son of Don McLean and Suzanne Best; Stephan, an art and design major from Lititz, PA, is the daughter of Lydia Stephan.
