Takamori’s ceramics on view this summer in Kansas City, MO
In Akio Takamori’s (AU Class of 1978) acclaimed “Alphabet Series,” individual ceramic figures represent letters that spell out words such as “War” and “Lust.” Like much of Takamori’s art, the works are playful and dark, representing themes he has explored before. The series, part of “Lust,” a major exhibit of Takamori’s ceramics and prints at Red Star Studios at the Belger Crane Yard, Kansas City, MO, dates from 2011, but the seeds for it were planted in 1974, when he met Ken Ferguson, the head of the Kansas City Art Institute ceramics department.
“Akio Takamori: Lust” continues at Red Star Studios at the Belger Crane Yard, 2011 Tracy Ave., through Aug. 24. Hours are by appointment only. For more information, 816-474-7316.
