Alumna’s dream turns real in children’s book

A longtime dream has turned real for Wende (Melrod) Essrow, AU Class of 1977, whose children’s book, “The Paintbrush Dreamer,” will be released Sunday, June 30, 2013 via a book launch open house at the Burchfield Nature and Art Center, 2001 Union Road, West Seneca, NY, from 4-7 p.m. The event will include book signings and children’s crafts.

“The Paintbrush Dreamer” is Wende’s story, using many of her paintings, of a lifelong dream to live among the birds, the deer, and the wildflowers. The book asks parents, grandparents, and children to connect to the natural world and to slow down and enjoy the outdoors. The book is geared to children ages 4-8.

Wende references her alma mater on the back cover of the book and writes “This is a dream come true and professors like Dr. (Paul) Strong, Lou Greiff, Ben Howard, and many others were most encouraging of my creative talents in their infancy.”
