Alumna opens 'Women of Influence' series

The Alfred University’s (AU) Women’s Leadership Center (WLC) will host alumna Sibyl S. McNulty, lawyer with Riley, Hewitt, Witte & Romano, Pittsburgh, as the first quest speaker in the 2013-14 “Women of Influence” series on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Judson Leadership Center on campus. The program is open to the public; admission is free.

McNulty’s discussion, “Traveling Through Life without GPS: Detours, Decisions and Destiny” will focus on keeping options open when it comes to employment opportunities and embracing the unknown. She will share her perspectives and experiences from a life which has “meandered from AU as an English major to housewife and mother to major litigator.”

Throughout her law career McNulty has tried more than 50 asbestos cases to verdict in both state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania, always as lead counsel. In addition, she has represented the interests of her clients in courts in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia and has managed various programs for them. She continues to handle matters involved in asbestos litigation and maintains a small family law and estate administrative practice.

McNulty is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association of Western Pennsylvania, and the Allegheny County Bar Association. She has been active in the Pittsburgh Chapter of The Matrimonial Inns of Court and in the Executive Women’s Council of Western Pennsylvania.

McNulty earned a bachelor of arts degree from AU in 1967. She went on to earn her J.D. degree from The University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1981.

The WLC builds on Alfred University’s heritage as the first truly coeducational institution on the nation. The Women of Influence program brings powerful female role models to campus, providing opportunities for inspiration and guidance through lectures and small group discussions. Past speakers have included a NYS Supreme court judge, a dean of a medical college, and a lobbyist from Albany.
