Bergren Forum - “Powerful Art: Building a Radical Labor Movement Through Ethnic-Racial Cultures”
Daniel KatzBergren Forum - “Powerful Art: Building a Radical Labor Movement Through Ethnic-Racial Cultures”
This talk will explore how the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union (ILGWU) successfully integrated thousands of black and Spanish-speaking workers into a militant, socialist-led movement by appealing to the language, poetry, music, dance, and theater of dozens of ethnic and racial groups of workers that made up the American garment industry workforce of the 1930s.
The Bergren Forum sponsored by the Division of Human Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Provost’s Office will be meeting at 12:10 pm on Thursday, November 17 in Nevins Theater, Powell Campus Center.
