Human Rights Emergency Meeting: A Family's Story, A Chinese Story

Free Ding Jiaxi

Robert Reginio

Sophie Luo, an AU alum and Alfred resident, needs your help in making contact with her husband, a human rights lawyer currently being held in secret detention in China. Luo will tell her family's story and there will be opportunity for you to sign a petition, volunteer to help in this cause, and learn about human rights abuses in China.

Ding Jiaxi, a China-based human rights lawyer, was rounded up by police after a legal gathering on December 26th, 2019. He is being secretly detained by the Chinese police and has not been able to contact a lawyer nor his family.

We need your help to make contact with Ding and to secure his release.

Ding Jiaxi's wife, Sophie Luo, is a graduate of AU's Engineering Program and lives in Alfred. At this event she will tell her husband's story, explain his part in the New Citizens’ Movement in China (which advocates working within the system for political change), and why she must speak up for her husband and for all the persecuted Chinese families.

Come and listen to this important call for our community to come together to support one of its own members and to support Ding Jiaxi and his belief that democracy and freedom are fundamental human rights.

Petitions will be available for signing and AU student-activists already working to free Ding Jiaxi will be present to tell you how you can help in their ongoing human rights activism.

Free pizza and soda will be available for attendees.
