Session 1: June 26-July 1

 Augustine Uzor // Figure Painting

Investigate the fundamental language of painting the nude human figure using a variety of mediums and techniques while studying the figure as subject and narrative device. Through a series of observational projects, a wide range of painting possibilities will be explored. Work on building solid observational painting skills, developing critical dialogue with the figure, and learning the potentials for personal expression.

Patsy Rausch // From Rag to Relevance, Hand papermaking

Exploring the potentials of hand papermaking using the portable papermaking studio, participants hop on the bike and peddle pulp. A papermaking station (pulling & couching) including pulp printing, pulp painting, and 3D pulping potentials are included. The range of the medium from pulling sheets to pulp painting to pulp printing and sculpting, casts a wider net in the discipline and opens participants up to many unique and collaborative possibilities.

Rachel Davis // Shades of Blue: Indigo Dye, Shibori and Other Methods

This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to historical and contemporary practices using indigo dye. Learn how to prepare cotton and silk fibers for the dye vat, and how to build and care for an indigo vat: learning numerous shibori techniques, including sewn, clamped and paste resist methods, and have time to experiment freely with all of them. Studio experiments allow exploration of personal objectives in fiber and contribute to a collaborative work produced over the course of the week.
