Allen Walk and Opening Convocation

We will hold our Convocation ceremony at 2:30 p.m. in the Galanis Family Arena, welcoming the incoming class of first-year and transfer students for what will be our University's 187th year. Students will begin to start lining up at 2 p. m., intersection of Pine St. and Allen Way to make their walk. Faculty should gather in Mclane Parking lot and Staff are encouraged to line Pine St. to welcome students as they make their way down.

Alfred University has been fortunate to have had a number of notable keynote speakers who have offered our students inspiring words at Convocation. This year, we are pleased to welcome Amy DeKay, our vice president for Student Experience.

Amy came to Alfred University with 25 years of experience in higher education student-focused positions, including 13 as vice president for Student Development at her alma mater, Medaille College in Buffalo. On July 11, she began her duties as Alfred University’s first-ever vice president for Student Experience. The former Division of Student Affairs was renamed to reflect the pivotal role that our students’ experience at Alfred University has both in their personal development and success and in our University’s ability to realize its promise.

As vice president for Student Experience, Amy provides leadership for a division which houses several offices and departments aimed at enhancing the student experience at Alfred University, including the Institute of Cultural Unity (ICU); Athletics; Career Development; Counseling and Wellness Center; Student Involvement/Powell Campus Center; Dining Services; Judicial Affairs; Public Safety; Residential Communities; and the Judson Leadership Center.

Amy earned a bachelor’s degree in child and youth services from Medaille in 1995 and went on to earn a master’s degree in student personnel administration from SUNY College at Buffalo in 1997. She served as assistant/associate dean of students and director of Student Activities/Campus Center Operations and New Student Orientation at Medaille from 1997 until 2009. In 2009, she was appointed as Medaille’s vice president for Student Development. From 2013-19, Amy also served as athletics director at Medaille.

Please join us at Convocation to hear Amy’s inspiring message and to welcome to campus the newest members of our student body.
