Student Affairs
Residence Life : Room Assignments and Meal Plans

Room Assignments
Incoming (first year, transfer and exchange) students are required to fill out a roommate matching survey which helps us to make room assignments that are compatible with student preferences. This survey is available on-line along with the Housing/Dining Contract. Once a student has sent in their deposit holding their place in the class, instructions are sent on how to set up their AU Email from the Office of Admissions. Students will receive an email from Residence Life with complete step-by-step instructions on completing their Housing/Dining Contract and Roommate Survey after April 1. Also included in this email are instructions and a web link to ROOMSYNC; our new Facebook app that helps our new students meet other new Alfred University students and allows them to select their own roommate. If a student does not have a Facebook account we will use the questions on the Roommate Survey for roommate matching. These matches are made by computer, based on the compatibility of information on the Roommate Survey. Priority is given based on the date of receipt of both the Survey and the Housing/Dining Contract. We request that you complete these forms as soon as possible and we stress that you be honest on the Survey.

Continuing students have first choice of space in the residence halls according to an assigned lottery number and we find that they generally fill singles and the Ford Street Apartments. Incoming transfer students may request these accommodations but should include other choices.

If you find a match through RoomSycn, to guarantee that match, each individual must indicate the other as instructed via the on-line process. If only one student makes the request the match cannot be made.

Roommate and hall assignment information is sent out during the first week of August.

Meal Plans
All students who live in residence halls are required to participate in the board plan, except for seniors, or residents of the Ford Street apartment complex and select Special Interest Houses (Environmental Studies, Hillel, Honors, and Modern Language). Please refer here for more information with regards to our meal plan options.
