1843 : The Alfred Academy hires its first female faculty members: Caroline B. Maxson and Melissa B. Kenyon.
1846 : The Alphadelphian Society is Alfred's first women's student organization. Founded by Abigail Allen, this was the first literary society for women at Alfred and one of the earliest women's literary societies in the country.
1850 : Eliza Durant is the first black woman to enroll at Alfred as well as its first female international student (from Haiti).
1854 : Elizabeth Oakes Smith is the first female lecturer at Alfred, sponsored by the Ladies' Literary Society (formerly The Alphadelphian Society).
1885 : Charlotte E. Groves is the first female member of Alfred's Board of Trustees.
1890 : Baseball is the first sport activity for Alfred women.
1906 : Basketball and field hockey are sports activities for Alfred women.
1917-18 : Julia Wahl is Alfred's first female editor of the Fiat Lux.
1918 : Mabel I. Hart is Alfred's first Dean of Women.
1921 : Theta Theta Chi, Alfred's first sorority, is founded.
1932 : M. M. French is the first woman to receive a Master of Science in Applied Art at Alfred University.
1933 : Ruth P. Greene is the first woman to be library director at Alfred University.
1937 Sylvia Gailar is the first woman to graduate with a degree in Glass Technology at Alfred University.
1942 : Esther W. Miller is the first woman to graduate with a degree in Ceramic Engineering at Alfred University.
1943 : Esther W. Miller is the first woman to receive a Master of Science in the College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
1944 : Vivika P. Timiriasieff is the first woman to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree at Alfred University.
1947 : Emily Van Schoick is the first woman to be Library Director in College of Ceramics at Alfred University.
1954 : I. Vernette Grau is the first woman to be Dean of the College of Nursing at Alfred University.
1957 : Eva Ford (Professor of Romance Languages) and Ada Seidlin (Professor of Pianoforte) both receive the rank of Full Professor under the promotion and tenure guidelines adopted in October 1957.
1967 : Esther M. Morgan (Professor of Psychology) is the first woman to earn the rank of Full Professor in Alfred's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
1969 : Doris Harrington, chair of the Division of Physical Education, is the first female division chair at Alfred University.
1976 : Carole A. Aldrich is the first woman to teach in the School of Business & Administration at Alfred University.
1973 Katherine Faber is the first woman to portray St. Patrick in Alfred's festivities for St. Patrick's Day.
1983 : The Women's Studies minor is offered at Alfred University for the first time with Gail Walker as Director.
1985 : Anna McHale is the first woman to teach in the School of Ceramic Engineering & Materials Science at Alfred University.
1988 : Christine R. Grontkowski is the first woman to be a Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Alfred University.
1989 : Kathleen Collins is the first woman to be Dean of the School of Art & Design at Alfred University.
1990 : E. Jessie Shefrin is the first woman to become a Full Professor in the School of Art & Design at Alfred University.
1990 : Susan Mayberry is the first woman to become Chairperson of a traditional academic discipline in the liberal arts (English) at Alfred University.
