MFA Thesis Exhibitions

Harder Hall, Room Robert C. Turner Gallery and Fosdick-Nelson Gallery

2025 MFA Thesis exhibitions in the Cohen Gallery (4/5, and 4/12), Robert C. Turner Gallery and Fosdick-Nelson Gallery. Exhibitions open weekly on Saturdays with receptions from 6-8pm April 5 - May 9 (Friday reception). Galleries open and exhibitions on view Saturdays - Tuesdays. Candidates for MFA degrees in Ceramic Art (CA), Sculpture Dimensional Studies (SDS), Electronic Integrated Arts (EIA), and Painting (PNT) are featured in a series of culminating exhibitions.

Maria de Los Angeles Artist Lecture

Maria De Los Angeles will be doing an artist lecture in Nevins Theater on April 1st at 1:30pm Maria De Los Angeles is a Mexican-born, American artist who addresses ideas of migration, belonging, and identity through her drawing, painting, printmaking, and wearable sculptures. She holds an MFA from Yale School of Art (2015), a BFA from Pratt Institute (2013), and an Associate Degree from Santa Rosa Junior College (2010). Maria was awarded the Blair Dickinson Memorial Prize by the Yale School of Art in 2015 and the William Aguilar Cultural Award in 2023, by the AHHE American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education Inc. for her artwork and her role within her communities.

Rededication of Van Frechette International Friendship Park

Van Fréchette International Friendship Park (NW corner of Pine and State Sts.)

As part of the celebrations of NYSCC’s 125th Anniversary, we will rededicate Van Frechette International Friendship Park on April 3rd at 10:30am, originally dedicated in 2000 to the "causes of peace, friendship, and cultural understanding" and to international students who "met the challenges of language, culture, and distance to study at Alfred University.

Reintroducing The Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center

This event is an opportunity to reintroduce the community to the Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center. The reception will be held in the Palladian Room in Binns-Merrill Hall Room 259 on April 3rd from 3:00-5:00pm.

Samuel R. Scholes Award Lecture and Events 2025

The Samuel R. Scholes Award Lecture will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025. This year's lecture is presented by Dr. Efstratios Kamitsos and is titled "Structure and Ion Dynamics in Melt-Quenched and Ion-Exchanged Glasses". In addition to the lecture, we will rededicating the Van Frechette Friendship Park in honor of its 50th anniversary. We are also thrilled to be having a grand re-opening of the Paul Vickers Gardner Glass Center.

Alfred University's Performing Arts Division presents Machinal, a play by Sophie Treadwell and directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre Jonathan Ziese. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on April 4, 5, 11, and 12 in the CD Smith III Theatre.

Lindsay Picht (PNT) Selfspace, Cohen Gallery Second-year painting grad Lindsay Picht's thesis show is on April 5th at 6 PM at the Cohen Gallery. Come celebrate the culmination of a two-year long investigation and exploration of watercolor painting!
