Alfred University hosts AUEnergy Conference

Alfred University hosted the AUEnergy Conference on Thursday, Oct. 23. The event, themed “Emerging Technology for a Resilient Grid,” brought a number of power industry professionals and energy enthusiasts to campus, where they heard talks from industry leaders and presentations on emerging technologies, and toured Alfred’s renewable energy and power grid simulation lab facilities.

Alfred University holds ceremony for New Edibon Power Systems Simulation lab

The AUEnergy Conference, held on the Alfred University campus Thursday, Oct. 23, concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Edibon Power Systems Simulation Lab; tours of labs across the McMahon Engineering Building; a poster presentation of current research by Alfred engineering students; and a networking reception for students and representatives from the power industry.

Alfred University student 'Becca' Amdur-Kass looks back on internship on Capitol Hill

Rebecca Amdur-Kass, a third-year student at Alfred University, grew up on Capitol Hill before her family moved to Maryland. During the past summer, she returned to the Hill as a legislative intern for Maryland Rep. Steny Hoyer, who represents the state’s Fifth Congressional District, and Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen.

Faculty, aspiring entrepreneurs attend conference on student-run businesses

Two Alfred University College of Business faculty accompanied five entrepreneurial-minded students to the Student Run Business Association’s SURGE Expo Oct. 16-18 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The event brought together participants from institutions with top business programs such as Harvard, Columbia, and Loyola, as well as institutions, like Alfred, with growing entrepreneurship programs.

Glass Olympics bring students from 12 schools to Alfred University for glass-themed competition

Alfred University hosted the Glass Olympics Oct. 10-11, and the event was a success, drawing close to 220 students from 12 colleges and universities. The Glass Olympics brings together glass students and educators from across the country for a weekend of skill, creativity, and collaboration.

Peer learning: AU English class uses British literature anthology compiled by current AU student

In 2019, Alfred University student Angela Vanbuskirk ’20 produced the Anthology of British Literature: From the Restoration to Modernism, a project for English Professor Allen Grove’s Publishing Practicum course, offered in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Vanbuskirk’s anthology traces English literature from the restoration of King Charles II in the 17th century to the 20th century and the advent of modernism.

Democrat and Chronicle publishes Mark Zupan guest column

A guest column by Mark Zupan, Alfred University president, was published over the weekend in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. In the piece, Zupan discusses how the world’s great nations have risen, and fallen, based on their willingness to welcome other people, cultures, and ideas.

Graduation rings available for alumni
