Saxon Hill Sports Complex remains on schedule for December completion

Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions throughout the spring, construction of the Saxon Hill Sports Complex, Alfred University’s $30 million sports and recreation facility atop Jericho Hill in the town of Alfred, remains on target for completion in December.

New astronomy minor invites more students to study the stars

Alfred University is home to the Stull Observatory and its seven independent telescopes, but relatively few students have chosen to take advantage of those resources in the form of a minor in astronomy. In the last 15 years, according to Assistant Professor of Astronomy Connor Robinson, fewer than five students have chosen to minor in the physics- and math-intensive subject.

David Pye ’59, ’68 awarded honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree during Reunion Weekend

Alfred University Professor Emeritus L. David Pye received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters at a ceremony Saturday in Holmes Auditorium. Pye received his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in ceramic science from Alfred University in 1959 and 1968. He joined the faculty of the New York State College of Ceramics (NYSCC) at Alfred University in 1968, beginning an academic career that lasted through 2002 and included serving as dean of NYSCC.

Arun and Darshana Varshneya endow University Conference on Glass

A gift from Arun Varshneya, Alfred University emeritus professor of glass science, and his wife, Darshana, will support the University Conference on Glass series as well as an annual lecture on glass at Alfred University.

Alfred University students win awards at 2025 Chinese Bridge Speech Competition

Two Alfred University students earned high honors at the 2025 Chinese Bridge Speech Competition for the Eastern U.S. Region, held at the China Institute of America in New York City on May 17. The event drew finalists from top institutions across the East Coast.

Weather doesn’t dampen enthusiasm at Hot Dog Day as event raises more than $10,000 for local non-profits

Despite chilly temperatures and rain, the Alfred University, Alfred State College, and local communities came out in full force to celebrate Hot Dog Day on Saturday, April 26, bringing incredible energy and generosity to the celebration. Organizers are thrilled to announce that this year’s celebration raised more than $10,000 for the event’s local non-profit partners.
