Kelsey "Chloë" Sucena, assistant professor of photography in Alfred University’s School of Art & Design Division of Expanded Media, New York College of Ceramics, exhibited her work this week in an exhibition on Queer Ecologies at Kansas University, Lawrence, KS.
Organized by artist and educator Emily Mulvaney, with assistance from recent Alfred University MFA recipient Gabriel Poucher, the symposium and accompanying exhibition explores the emergent term "Queer Ecology" through a wide range of disciplines from science to the arts.
In its most general sense, Queer Ecology explores nature, biology, and sexuality in the light of queer theory, drawing from science studies, ecofeminism, environmental justice, queer epistemology, and geography.
The University of Kansas symposium included a panel discussion, art exhibition, live music and dinner.
