WROC, Rochester’s CBS television affiliate, published a story recently on the revocation of visas held by 11 University of Rochester students and recent graduates. Alfred University President Mark Zupan, who before coming to Alfred served as dean of U of R’s Simon Business School, commented for the story.
The story, “Former U of R dean speaks out on revoked visas for students nationwide,” was posted to WROC’s online site, RochesterFirst.com, on Thursday, April 10. In it, Zupan discussed the challenges and concerns associated with student visas being revoked, and the University of Rochester’s and Alfred University’s response.
Zupan noted that no Alfred University students have been affected by the Trump administration policy, and that the university is closely monitoring the situation.
“We’re watching our SEVIS system daily,” Zupan said, referring to the Department of Homeland Security’s Student and Exchange Visitor Information System. “We haven’t had a student get affected yet. But we’re going to be there, so they can finish in the best possible way and at the same time, be mindful,” he commented in the story.
“We’re with a group of universities looking for a briefing from a state department as to what is driving these policy decisions. We’ll also have to be mindful of due process and how the Supreme Court will weigh in as to how those considerations are followed,” Zupan said.
