Please be advised that purchasing with operating budget dollars (110000 or 111000 funds) for FY26 will be closed at the end of day on Friday, June 5th.
As a reminder, please make sure that you complete all goods receipts and process any approvals in a timely manner. This helps to ensure that all fiscal year 2026 expenditures are processed prior to the June 30th deadline.
Please note - if an order is placed prior to June 30th, but the goods are not received and/or invoiced by June 30th, then that charge will be moved to the 2027 fiscal year budget.
If you are aware of an order in The Saxon Shop that you know will not be received prior to June 30th, please let the Procurement Office know.
Thank you.

For the first time at Alfred University, the Department of Communication Studies is proud to offer Investigative Journalism - a hands-on, skills-based course that brings computer-assisted reporting into the classroom.
Journalism is changing. The stories that matter most are increasingly driven by data - public records, government databases, and digital documents that reveal patterns invisible to the naked eye. This course prepares students to find those patterns and turn them into compelling, responsible news reporting.
What You Will Learn
Students will work directly with real datasets and public records, developing practical skills in:
Data analysis for journalism using Microsoft Excel and database tools
Locating, requesting, and evaluating public records and government datasets
Creating clear and accurate data visualizations
Applying investigative and daily reporting strategies
Using data ethically and responsibly in news stories
No advanced coding or technical experience is required. If you can think critically and tell a story, this course will give you the tools to tell it better.
Why This Course Matters
Data journalism is no longer a specialty - it is a core competency for reporters across every beat. An ever-growing number of journalists use data techniques daily to provide context, uncover trends, and replace anecdotes with solid evidence. This course lays that foundation.
Course Details
?? Fall 2026
?? Monday thru Thursday | 10:20 AM - 11:10 AM
?? Seidlin 016
?? CRN: 19800
Open to all students. No technical background required. Seats are limited - early registration is encouraged.

The Alfred community is excited to be welcoming our friends back from the UK for their bi-annual visit to Alfred. The Harvey Grammar School boys' soccer team and their coaches will be arriving in Alfred on the evening of Sunday, August 9th and leaving the morning of Friday, August 14th. We are in NEED of host families for our players. Host families from Hornell, Alfred, Alfred-Almond, and Wellsville have participated in the past. This is a really fun, short-term experience for our families and our friends from across the pond. If you would like more information, please reach out to: Trish Haggerty at [email protected] or call: 607-587-4011
