AU's Universal Design for Learning Task Force is pleased to share weekly tips to help faculty and staff provide an inclusive learning environment for all students, regardless of differences that may impact learning. This week's tip is:
Adobe Accessibility Checker for PDFs
It is important to make sure that PDFs are compatible with screen reading technology, and can easily be read by the naked eye. The "Prepare for Accessibility" tool can be used to scan a document or form for accessibility and address accessibility challenges such as missing headings, alternate text for images, or field descriptions in forms.

To coincide with our final enrollment census report we ask that you verify your class rosters between Aug. 28th and Sept. 10th.
When reporting begins you should get an external Enrollment Census Campaign email via Navigate. If you do not see the email, please check your junk or spam folder.
When verifying your rosters, please log in to Banner Web and confirm that your class lists accurately reflect the students who are currently attending.
IMPORTANT: Report Students Who Are Not Attending
Please note that attendance concerns should not be reported through roster verification. Instead, submit an Issue Alert for the student in Navigate.
Accurate roster verification is important for two reasons:
1. Student Records and Registration
o Registration issues become increasingly difficult to resolve as the term progresses.
o Inaccurate enrollment records can affect students' billing, financial aid, academic progress, and final grading.
2. Census Enrollment Reporting
o We rely on this data not only for internal planning and fiscal management but also for reporting to accrediting organizations and state and federal agencies.
o Accurate reporting ensures compliance and supports the integrity of our institutional data.
Thank you for completing your roster verification by the Sept. 10th deadline.

We are pleased to present the 2026 schedule for High Holy Day events, held at the Knight Club on the Alfred University campus and at the Hillel House at 18 S. Main Street in Alfred. Hillel at Alfred sponsors an erev Rosh Hashanah dinner, an erev Yom Kippur dinner and a Break Fast meal. We will also stream services from the Central Synagogue in New York City at the Kight Club on erev Rosh Hashanah and erev Yom Kippur. All meals are kosher. Please go to AU Connect to reserve a space at the dinners. Apply for the Undergraduate Jerome Ackerman Internship
Deadline: Sept 14th
The Ackerman Internship is a one semester paid internship that offers students at Alfred University's School of Art and Design in-depth exposure to Museum professional practices as well as deep insight into creative processes across history. The interns will work directly with the Museum's Curator of Collections and Research Director, Susan Kowalczyk. Tasks and responsibilities will focus on data and inventory assessment, research and cataloging, as well as handling ceramic art in the Museum's collection. The internship is designed to further the intern's professional goals while helping the Museum address its specific needs.

Effective September 1, 2026, all employees and students requesting authorization to drive an Alfred University vehicle must complete the appropriate Driver Registration Form electronically through the Motor Pool website.
Paper forms and PDF applications will no longer be accepted. Any paper or PDF submissions received will be returned with a request to complete the electronic application.
Please submit your application at least one week before you anticipate needing a University vehicle to allow time for the required driver authorization review. A copy of a valid U.S. driver's license is required as part of the application process.
Submitting an application does not authorize an individual to drive a University vehicle. Human Resources must complete the review and confirm approval before the individual may operate a University vehicle.
Thank you for your cooperation as we move to a more consistent electronic process.

The Inamori School of Engineering graduate student, Cooper Howard will defend his PhD/Ceramic Engineering Thesis Friday, September 18th in Binns-Merrill Room 160.
Title of Thesis: Solid State Sintering of SiC using Soluble Additives
Copies of Cooper's thesis Will be on display in Binns-Merrill 160 and in McMahon in the CACT Office.
