Join us on May 5th from 6-8pm at Alfred Village Hall for a student project showcase!
Terra cotta is important in Alfred's local history and in the creation of the New York State College of Ceramics. This event will showcase final projects by students in a terra cotta focused course taught by University Archivist Laurie Lounsberry Meehan. The class explored many disciplines related to the topic, for instance, geology, art, engineering, entrepreneurship, and history. They heard about local efforts to use terracotta to brand and market the Village of Alfred as well as current efforts to restore and enhance terracotta elements in town. Many of the final projects reflect ideas developed by the Alfred 21st Century Group. The students are excited to share their work with the local community! This event also ties in with the yearlong celebration of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the New York State College of Ceramics.
