Women’s Studies’ Riley Lecture
Prestigious L.A.-based Director Casey Stangl will share her experiences as a woman directing plays, operas and film productions at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31, in the Knight Club. A catered reception will follow, open and free to everyone.
Casey's talk is titled "The Good, the Bad and the Pretty: A Woman Director in American Theatre."
Casey recently shadowed Alan Ball on the final episode of "Six Feet Under," Peter Horton on "Grey's Anatomy" and Gail Mancuso on "Scrubs," and she directed "Girls Gone Verbal," a short film she wrote about a women's book club.

Relay For Life: This Weekend!
Come honor loved ones and remember those who have fought cancer. During Relay, participants form teams to take turns walking around a track.
There will be a meaningful luminary ceremony, cancer survivors lap, and fun entertainment. All money raised goes to the American Cancer Society for cancer research and cancer survivor services.
You must register online to attend, so don't forget to sign up now!
Once signed up online, come to McLane Gym between 6-7 pm THIS Friday to pick up your team t-shirts. The survivor lap will kick-off our Relay at 7 p.m. Friday. The Relay lasts until 7 a.m. Saturday morning.

Call for Videos
Alternative Cinema is having its first Super Exciting Student Film Festival!
We are looking for submissions of any duration and on any subject. We will be happy to accept videos from anyone; students, faculty, etc.
There will be (silly) prizes given in a variety of exciting categories (classiest, strangest, funniest ...)
Anyone interested can submit their videos in Quicktime format to altcin@alfred.edu (or send a DVD to 2211 PCC) UNTIL Friday, April 11.
Please include name, title, and any other information you'd like us to present.
The Festival will take place Saturday, April 19 in Nevins Theater at 8 p.m.

’GIS: How Can it Work for You?’
Biology Seminar Series, Tuesday, April 1

Science Center Room 402
Justin Grigg, AU GIS specialist will make the presentation. The seminar will describe the many ways a GIS assists the understanding and analysis of environmental and ecological data. Desktop and "virtual earth" GIS software will be sued to migrate tabular data to both 2D and 3D geospatial contexts.

Alfred Literary Festival Book Signing
The Alfred Literary Festival is proud to present a book signing with visiting authors Stewart O'Nan and Erica Dawson and local author Carol Burdick. The signing will be held Friday, March 28 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge of the Powell Campus Center. Books will be available for purchase.
Stewart O'Nan is the author of eleven books of fiction, including LAST NIGHT AT THE LOBSTER, A PRAYER FOR THE DYING and SNOW ANGELS. Erica Dawson is the author of the poetry collection BIG-EYED AFRAID. Carol (C.B.) Burdick is the author of the essay collection HAPS AND MISHAPS. The Union Show Held by Alfred Art Union
Art Union is having a juried art competition this semester at Gallery 17 on Main Street (the old video store). All submissions will have been chosen anonymously by seven Alfred University faculty members. There will be prizes!
Friday, April 25 we will be having a reception at the gallery 6-8 p.m. where we will have food and refreshments and the prizes will be announced!
Please view the online prospectus form to submit (open to all grad and undergraduate students at both Alfred University and Alfred State College). Submission deadline is Thursday April 10.
